Whirlwind Schedule For US First Lady In UK

Michelle Obama has met with David Cameron and his wife Samanatha at Downing Street as she continues her UK tour.

The First Lady, accompanied by her daughters, Malia, 16, and 14-year-old Sasha and her mother, Marian Robinson, swept up to the door of Number 10 in a seven-vehicle convoy, and spent around 45 minutes inside.

Michelle Obama visited David and Samantha Cameron in Number 10. During her busy schedule, Mrs Obama and her family also took tea with Prince Harry at Kensington Palace.

Earlier, Mrs Obama received a rapturous welcome when she visited a ”Mulberry School for Girls” in Tower Hamlets as part of her campaign to give girls in developing countries the opportunity to have an education.

After being given a superstar greeting by students at the Mulberry School for Girls, the First Lady told pupils how she sees “a room full of business leaders and surgeons and barristers”.

And she said she knows what it feels like to be overlooked and underestimated, Mrs Obama added: “I see women who are going to win elections, science competitions and arts awards.”

The First Lady is in the UK to unveil a $200m scheme, jointly funded by Britain and America, to address the “heart-breaking injustice” which means there are more than 62 million girls worldwide who do not have access to schooling.

She spoke to the audience about girls like Malala Yousafzai “who are assaulted, kidnapped or killed just for trying to learn”.
