Avocado Prices Are Set To Rise: This Is Not A Drill

According to a new report in trade magazine The Grocer, the price of avocados in set to soar due to high demand and lack of supply. The report states that sales of avocados are up by as much as 25% since last year in the UK. At the same time, avocado producers in the Mediterranean have been hit by El Nino - the weather pattern that causes adverse conditions such as colder winters - which has made production more difficult. Sandra Kajda, category buyer for fruit and vegetable supplier Reynolds, told the magazine the poor weather could cause production to fall by 30% this year, which will only increase prices further.
