Water thrown at terrified Muslim women in fake acid attack hate crime outside Southampton mosque

The women, who were wearing traditional head coverings, were attacked as they waited outside the Bashir Ahmed Masjid in Southampton on Tuesday. CCTV footage shows a black car slowing down next to them before speeding away. The pair react in horror before realising they are unhurt. Five acid attacks in 90-minutes hit London The mosque, in the southern city's Portswood district, has been forced to issue a safety warning to worshippers. Christian man kills teenage daughter over relationship with Muslim prisoner in Israel

A Christian man has been charged with murdering his daughter over her relationship with a Muslim man in Israel. Sami Karra denies killing his 17-year-old daughter, Henriette, in what prosecutors describe as a suspected honour killing. An indictment seen by local media said the Israeli Arab family objected to her relationship with the man, who was serving time in prison, and intention to convert to Islam for him. Their year-long relationship had sparked vehement opposition from relatives, whose threats allegedly forced her to flee her home in May and send messages to friend fearing they are sending people to kill me. Police and social services had intervened in the case, summoning Henriette and her parents to a joint meeting on 11 June two days before she was killed and sug...

Divisions exposed over £66bn Brexit divorce bill

Divisions over the UK’s Brexit divorce bill were laid bare on Tuesday as British negotiators pushed back against a mooted €75bn (£66bn) Brexit charge-sheet. On the second day of detailed Brexit negotiations, the British team peppered the Brussels side with questions over how to pay for unwinding 44 years of the UK’s European Union membership. An earlier session of talks on Monday was so intense officials did not take a coffee break and were running out of water. Both sides think the mood has improved after the British government admitted last week it had debts to the EU. A statement to parliament on Thursday that the UK has financial obligations from its EU membership helped defuse a potentially toxic row that was brewing, after the foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, said B...

They plan to use road closures and disbursal zones, giving officers powers to disburse perpetrators of crime and ASB and even to seize vehicles if necessary. Thunderstorms cause flooding in Cornwall as lightning lashes London and south coast

Lightning storms have lashed the south-east of England, hours after a village in Cornwall was cut off by flash floods. A yellow weather warning was put in place for London and the south east, as forecasters warned of frequent lightning. Thunderstorms are moving towards the London area. Intense rain, gusty winds, hail and frequent lightning all possible, the Met Office tweeted in the evening. As the storm rolled in, the lightning strikes were soon trending on Twitter as users, including comedian Bill Bailey, shared dramatic images of the storm. Earlier in the day, the severe weather had battered the south west of the country. Fire crews raced to the small Cornish seaside town of Coverack amid multiple reports of flooding as ferocious thunderstorms moved over the area. Local...
