Frustrated EU fears Britain is heading for the Brexit rocks

British Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union. David Davis and EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier address the media after the third round of Brexit talks. On Wednesday afternoon, with Jean Claude Juncker’s state of the union speech calling for swifter, deeper integration still ringing in their ears, a gaggle of political leaders in the European parliament met in a room opposite the chamber in Strasbourg. In the appositely named Salle de Margaret Thatcher, Guy Verhofstadt, the colourful former Belgian prime minister who is coordinating MEPs’ response to Brexit, discussed with colleagues from the pro-European political parties on the parliament’s Brexit steering group how they should respond to the seeming stalemate in the Brexit negotiations. The latest d...

Boris Johnson ought to be fired

Senior Conservatives have denounced Theresa May as too weak to unite her cabinet and run an effective government after she refused to sack her foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, for breaking ranks over Brexit. Johnson infuriated Tory MPs on both sides of the European debate when he spelt out his own personal vision of a hard Brexit in a newspaper article, only days before May is expected to outline possible areas for compromise with Brussels in a speech in Florence. Downing Street insisted that May still had full confidence in Johnson, although he had not informed her of the content of his article. Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Johnson insisted that the UK must not pay any money to the EU for access to its markets after Brexit and made no mention of a transition period af...

Eyewitnesses describe horror M5 lorry crash

Eyewitness have revealed the full horror after a lorry smashed through a central barrier on the M5, leaving at least four dead and a woman and two children fighting for their lives. The truck was travelling along the southbound carriageway when it suddenly smashed through the barrier and ploughed into several vehicles, witnesses said. Dozens of motorists leapt from their vehicles to help victims and pulled screaming children and their parents from burning cars. A hero cardiologist, who was among those that rushed to the aid of one of victims, said one car was absolutely destroyed and another had flipped over. Another motorist said they could see one car had been left completely flat, leaving them fearing the people inside wouldn't have stood a chance. Horror pictures show ...

Awkward Moment: Donald Trump formally shakes his wife Melania’s hand then ushers her off stage

The US First Lady was introducing her husband to the stage at the Joint Base Andrews in Maryland when the cringe worthy encounter took place. After Melania says her husband's name, he walks towards her and shakes her hand in a business like way before firmly pushing her off the stage as bemused service men and women look on. This is not the first time Melania has looked uncomfortable on stage with her husband. Back in February, footage of the First Lady accompanying her husband at a campaign rally in Florida appeared to show her shuddering after he touched her arm mid speech. President Trump used his speech at Joint Base Andrews on September 15 to condemn North Korea 's missile tests and continue his aggressive rhetoric against leader Kim Jong-un. He said: America and our ...

Koala survives 10 mile ride clinging to four wheel drive axle

A koala in Australia survived a lengthy trip while clinging to the axle of a four-wheel drive vehicle. The driver was unaware of the koala clinging to his wheel throughout the 10 mile journey through Adelaide until he stopped his car after being flagged down by other motorists, reports UPI. He then heard the animal’s cries coming from underneath the vehicle and called the Koala Rescue Hotline, which sent rescuer Jane Brister to the scene. Brister then contacted Metropolitan Fire Service to help remove the vehicles wheel to free the koala. I could smell her burnt fur, Brister told The Guardian. It would have been hot in there. Don Bigham, from Fauna Rescue of South Australia’s Koala Hotline, said the female koala was relatively unharmed. The koala was taken into ...
