Aung San Suu Kyi to be stripped of Freedom of Edinburgh award

Aung San Suu Kyi has been stripped of a variety of accolades and awards in response to the events in Rahkine Suu Kyi is set to be stripped of her Freedom of Edinburgh award for her refusal to condemn the violence against the Rohingya in Myanmar. This will be the seventh honour that the former Nobel peace prize winner has been stripped of over the past year, with Edinburgh following the example of Oxford, Glasgow and Newcastle which also revoked Suu Kyi’s Freedom of the City awards. How often should be washing bed sheets

Does anyone have any clue how long they should go before washing their bed sheets? Is there a set rule? Should we do it every day, every week, every fortnight? Honestly, who knows? Okay, well microbiologists know. And they have decided to impart their knowledge with us! Thank you! And the answer may have you running to put a wash on right now. Philip revealed that you should be washing your bed sheets every week! Yup, every seven days! Turns out that all the sweat and moisture we produce while sleeping creates an ideal fungal culture medium that, according to Philip it turns our beds into a ‘botanical park’ for bacteria and fungus. Add to your little bacteria feeding ground all the microbes in the air, like dust, pollen and lint. Okay, we’re off to wash our she...

The Isolating Life of Parenting a Potential Psychopath

Parenting a child with conduct disorder is the loneliest thing I know.  Conduct disorder (CD) is a diagnosis given to children who have an ongoing pattern of troubling antisocial behavior. The definitions are all very wordy but the simple version is that a child who gets this diagnosis might grow up to be a psychopath. When my son got his diagnosis, I wasn’t surprised. He started physically hurting me when his age was measured in months, rather than years. Consequences did not deter him. For years I told friends, doctors, teachers, my own parents that I thought there was something wrong with him. No one listened. Parents at the park started avoiding us.  My son was never invited to parties or included in fun activities. Not that I blame them he was constantly harmi...

Russia is preparing to search for a nuclear-powered missile

A nuclear-powered Russian missile remains lost at sea after a failed test late last year, and Moscow is preparing to try to recover it, according to people with direct knowledge of a U.S. intelligence report. Crews will attempt to recover a missile that was test launched in November and landed in the Barents Sea, which is located north of Norway and Russia. The operation will include three vessels, one of which is equipped to handle radioactive material from the weapon's nuclear core. There is no timeline for the mission, according to the people with knowledge of the report. The U.S. intelligence report did not mention any potential health or environmental risks posed by possible damage to the missile's nuclear reactor. Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled the...

Continuous talks in bid for Brexit breakthrough

Britain will hold continuous negotiations with the EU from now on in a bid to achieve a breakthrough in Brexit talks. Following a meeting with Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab in Brussels on Tuesday, the EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier revealed discussions are now entering the final stage. We have agreed the EU and the UK will negotiate continuously from now on and Dominic and I will meet regularly to take stock and move the negotiations forward, he said. Mr Barnier paved the way for negotiations to yet extend beyond the next formal European Council summit on 18 October, which had previously been viewed as a deadline for striking a deal. He said a UK divorce agreement and political declaration on the future UK-EU partnership was needed "well before the end of th...
