    An Amtrak passenger train slammed into a freight train parked on a side track in South Carolina early Sunday, killing two Amtrak crew members and injuring more than 110 people, authorities said. It was the third deadly wreck involving Amtrak in less than two months. The Silver Star was on its way from New York to Miami with nearly 150 people aboard around 2:45 a.m. when it plowed into the CSX train at an estimated 59 mph, Gov. Henry McMaster said. The crash happened around a switchyard about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Columbia. The governor said investigators have yet to determine how the Amtrak train ended up on that stretch of track.     A helicopter crashed into a house in a Newport Beach, California, neighborhood Tuesday, leaving at least three people dead and two others injured, the Newport Fire Department said. Fire Chief Chip Duncan confirmed the fatalities. CBS Los Angeles reports that one of the deceased was a person on the ground. The park says Vila, who turned 60 in October, died on Thursday surrounded by members of her family troop. Authorities say she was the matriarch of five generations of gorillas and during her life served as a surrogate mother for several western lowland gorillas. Gorillas typically live to be 35 or 40. They are considered critically endangered because of disease, hunting, war and habitat loss. Vila had arthritis and other health conditions related to her age and had been under veterinary care. She was born in the African Congo in 1957. She came to the zoo in 1959 and was moved to the safari park in 1975.
