US in show of strength with dozens of stealth fighters

The U.S. Air Force has performed a huge show of strength by launching more than 50 fully-armed Lightning II stealth fighters in a single wave following an elephant walk down the runway. The 52 F-35A aircrafts, which are worth a whopping $4.2 billion, took off in quick succession from the Hill Air Force Base in Utah on Monday. The exercise carried out by the active duty 388th and Reserve 419th Fighter Wings showed the Air Force's ability to deploy a large force of the F-35As. While the exercise has been planned for several months, the execution of it came in the same week the U.S. continues to brace for Iran to respond to the drone strike killing of its most powerful general in Iraq. The Fighter Wings revealed on Monday that the F-35As have now finally reached full...

I am beating everybody: Trump looks to November

President Trump sat forward on the edge of his chair and chatted at length with reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, unbowed but for him a little subdued. The day after he was impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, he dismissed the judgment of the House of Representatives and punched back by celebrating with a Democratic congressman who switched parties to stand with him. I don’t feel like I’m being impeached because it’s a hoax, it’s a setup, Mr. Trump insisted as he showcased Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, the newly minted Republican, and looked beyond his seemingly certain acquittal in a Senate trial to next fall’s election. I’m beating everybody by a lot, the president said, and I think that’s where we’re going. For Mr. Trump, it was the...

We communicate differently: Melania on Greta row

The Trump-vs-Greta Thunberg conflict continued Friday after first lady Melania Trump responded to accusations of anti-bullying hypocrisy by issuing a statement about her husband's tweet attacks on the Swedish climate-activist teenager. Greta Thunberg, 16, who travels the globe giving speeches, isn't the same as her son Barron Trump, a 13-year-old who wants and deserves privacy, she said in the statement, according to The Associated Press. The statement also acknowledged that she and President Donald Trump communicate differently. The first lady was silent this week after the president mocked Thunberg, telling her in a tweet that she should work on her anger management and chill out. He was dismissive of Thunberg after she was named Time's Person of the Year Thursda...

It is possible to convert a Trump supporter

A lot of people on the left will tell you that Trump supporters are stuck in their ways, and unwilling to talk to the other side. They’ll tell you the country is too divided for open-minded discussion. They’ll tell you that support among the president’s die-hard fans has remained consistent, irrespective of his policies and politics. There is some truth to that but I happen to know that it is possible to convert a Trump supporter. I know this because I helped convert one. My friend Vinny and I met in 2011, when we were culinary students together in New York City. We have a long history of political conversations. “I voted Obama two terms, and Obama was the first president that I was legally able to vote for,” he told me, not so long ago. His support for Obama was ...

Tesla bulletproof glass fails in demo

Nine years after outlining his plan for a Tesla super truck with crazy torque, dynamic air suspension that corners like it's on rails, Elon Musk has revealed the Cybertruck. But while the vehicle may live up to the hype, the unveiling didn’t go quite to plan. Described as an armoured personal carrier from the future, Mr Musk decided to demonstrate the electric truck's toughness during the launch event in California. First he encouraged people to use sledgehammers to strike the ultra-strong door panels, which are made of the same alloys found on spacecraft. There was barely a dent. A video demonstration then showed the lack of damage caused by bullets. It is literally bulletproof to a 9mm handgun, he said. That's how strong the skin is. Finally, it was time to show...

Trump’s name removed from two New York ice rinks

At two of President Trump’s oldest businesses a pair of ice rinks in Central Park, which Trump has run since the 1980s Trump Organization employees did something unusual in the past few weeks. They started removing the Trump name. Now, as skating season begins, the president’s name is gone from the boards around each rink where large red “TRUMP” signs once surrounded skaters. It is mostly gone from the desk where visitors rent skates: There, the white tarp used to hide the Trump name wasn’t quite big enough for the job, so a “T” still sticks out. And where the president’s name remains, it is largely relegated to the fine print. The welcome sign out front of one rink used to say “Trump” at the top; now the name is at the very bottom, under the phone number. “Operated...

Four homeless men in US beaten to death as they slept

Four homeless men have been beaten to death with a metal pipe as they slept in doorways and pavements in New York's Chinatown, police say. The suspect, who is also homeless, wielded the weapon and went on his rampage early on Saturday morning. A fifth person was left with serious injuries, police said. Police recovered the weapon, which was still in the suspect's hands when he was arrested, officials said. The motive appears to be, right now, just random attacks, Chief of Manhattan South Detectives Michael Baldassano said at a news conference, adding there was no evidence yet that the victims were targeted by race, age, anything of that nature. Two law enforcement officials identified the 24-year-old suspect as Randy Rodriguez Santos. The officials spoke on the ...

Trump ask for stolen time back

Donald Trump has suggested he should be given “stolen time back” due to “how unfairly” he has been treated by the FBI and its investigations into him. “The disastrous IG Report on James Comey shows, in the strongest of terms, how unfairly I, and tens of millions of great people who support me, were treated,” Mr Trump tweeted on Friday morning. “Our rights and liberties were illegally stripped away by this dishonest fool. We should be given our stolen time back?” The president has mentioned serving longer than the legal eight years several times, joking in April that he could remain in the White House for “at least for 10 or 14 years.” The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution prevents presidents from serving more than two terms. He continued: “The fact that James ...

US woman faces jail over ice cream stunt

A woman filmed licking a tub of ice cream before putting it back in a supermarket freezer faces up to 20 years in prison. The footage which has been viewed more than 11 million times is believed to have been shot in a branch of Walmart in Lufkin, Texas. A police statement said: Our detectives are working to confirm the identity of the female suspect seen in a viral video of her licking a half-gallon of Blue Bell Tin Roof ice cream in a Lufkin Walmart store around 11pm, June 28. Once her identity is verified, detectives will proceed with getting a warrant for her arrest on a charge of second-degree felony tampering with a consumer product. As that portion of the investigation continues, detectives are focusing on identifying the male (in the green shirt) behind the...

Manslaughter charge for US mum after unborn baby shot

An Alabama woman has been charged with manslaughter in connection to a shooting where her unborn child was killed. The indictment for 27-year-old Marshae Jones was handed down Wednesday by a grand jury following the December 2018 shooting outside of a Dollar General in Pleasant Grove, Alabama. According to AL.com, Jones was taken into custody in Jefferson County on Wednesday and is being held on a $50,000 bond. The altercation between Jones and the alleged shooter, 23-year-old Ebony Jemison, was reportedly related to the father of Jones' unborn child, the Washington Post said. At the time, Jones was five months pregnant. The argument between the two women led Jemison to shoot Jones in the stomach, and though officers were called to scene and expecting to discover ...
