A British student dies in Thailand after falling from balcony

A young British student has died after she fell from a balcony whilst she was holidaying in Thailand. She was due to return to the UK in three days after the tragic accident. Maxine Missick, 23, was found dead in a hotel in Southern Thailand at 5.30am on Friday morning by a passing motorcyclist who heard her body hit the ground. She had checked into a room on the 31st floor of the hotel in Hat Yai last Monday. Friends of the student have demanded that police begin an investigation into her death. Why are so many Russian diplomats dying

Russian ambassador Migayas Shirinskiy has become the eighth Kremlin diplomat to die since the election of Donald Trump in November 2016, sparking conspiracy theories. Shirinsky, ambassador to Sudan, was swimming in the pool of his residence in Khartoum last Wednesday when he seemed to suffer a heart attack. While there is no evidence to suggest his demise was suspicious, he is just the latest in a string of Russian emissaries to die unexpectedly. Foul play has been ruled out in some cases, but questions linger in others. That's either because the facts have changed over time, details are hard to come by, or the deaths are still under investigation, says CNN. A darker theory links the deaths to the claims of Russian state interference in the 2016 US election and the electio...

Inventor of submarine faces new charge over journalist Kim Wall’s death

Danish authorities have filed another charge against the inventor of a home-made submarine suspected over the death of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, whose headless torso was found off Copenhagen. Peter Madsen, already charged with preliminary manslaughter for Ms Wall’s death, now faces a charge of indecent handling of a corpse, according to chief investigator Jens Moeller Jensen. Madsen denies wrongdoing, saying Ms Wall died in an accident aboard the submarine and he buried her at sea. She was last seen alive on the submarine on August 10 and her naked torso was found on Monday. Police said her head, arms and leg had been deliberately cut off. They also said a piece of metal had been attached to the torso likely with the purpose to make it sink, and marks on it indicated so...

She had just given birth by C-section and was on her way to a maternity ward to recover and spend time with her newborn on Sunday, according to a report by El Correro. Her baby escaped unhurt, the newspaper said. She had two other girls, aged four and five-years-old, according to local media, which reported the 25-year-old had been decapitated in the horrific tragedy. A huge manhunt underway amid fears terror suspect fled across Europe

A huge manhunt was underway across Europe last night for at least one jihadist feared to be still at large after plotting the Barcelona terrorist attacks. Spain terror attacks: What we know

Spanish police intensified a manhunt Friday for suspects behind two deadly vehicle attacks on civilians, shooting and killing five people wearing fake bomb belts who attacked a seaside resort and arresting four others believed linked to the carnage wrought on a Barcelona promenade. Spanish authorities said the back-to-back vehicle attacks Thursday afternoon and early Friday morning as well as a deadly explosion earlier this week in a house elsewhere in Catalonia — were related and the work of a large terrorist group. The Islamic State group quickly claimed responsibility for Europe's latest bout of extremist violence, which left 13 dead and 100 wounded after a van roared down Barcelona's historic Las Ramblas promenade on Thursday. Hours later, a blue Audi plowed into peopl...

UK drivers unaware of EU speeding law

The majority of British motorists heading out to Europe are unaware of a new law that could land them a £640 fine if caught speeding, new research has revealed. A new EU cross-border directive on traffic offences means that Brits who get caught speeding in the European Union now face fines of up to £640. The new law allows foreign police officers to use DVLA data to track down drivers who’ve committed a driving offence abroad. Analysis by breakdown provider Green Flag found that 81 per cent of British drivers are unaware of the new law introduced in May this year. This is made worse with 69 per cent of drivers putting themselves at risk by admitting they do not know how to convert their speed from miles per hour to kilometres per hour. Cross border offences were previously...
