Meghan’s right about the British stiff upper lip

Meghan Markle has opened up about the impact of the racist vitriol towards her in British tabloids, saying that she tried hard to ignore it but ultimately, she’s not OK. I've said for a long time to H that's what I call him it is not enough to just survive something. That's not the point of life. You've got to thrive and feel happy, she told ITV’s Tom Bradby. ‘I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I tried, I really tried. But I think what that does internally is probably really damaging. The candid interview, given as part of their ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, has been met with praise but sadly and unsurprisingly, backlash from those wishing to defend the pillar of British culture. It’s baffling to watch i...

Johnson to go for Christmas election if MPs don’t back his Brexit timetable

Boris Johnson dropped a political bombshell by saying he will pull his Bill to deliver Brexit if defeated in votes tonight and demand a general election instead. The Prime Minster made the threat at the Dispatch Box at the start of a debate leading to two crunch votes in the House of Commons. The public does not want delay Mr Speaker, he told the House. “What on earth will the public think of us if this house again votes to delay Brexit? If parliament refuses to allow Brexit to happen... in no circumstances can the government continue with this, he concluded. With great regret I will have to say the Bill will have to be pulled and we will have to go forward to a general election. I will argue at that election Let’s get Brexit done... and the people will decide. H...

IS bride Shamima at risk of being killed

Shamima Begum, the woman who left Britain as a schoolgirl to join Islamic State in Syria, has launched an appeal against the Home Office’s move to revoke her citizenship and prevent her from returning to London. At a partially secret hearing before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac), lawyers for Begum, who is now 20, alleged she had been left stateless, was unable to mount a fair and effective legal challenge and was at risk of death, inhuman or degrading treatment. If she was forced to go to Bangladesh, her parents’ country of origin, she was at risk of being hanged, the court was told. Begum, who was born in the UK, grew up in east London. The court was told there was no evidence she had ever visited Bangladesh or applied for citizenship there. In ...

Johnson bids to fast-track Brexit bill in three days

Boris Johnson is to seek to fast-track legislation to ratify his Brexit deal through the Commons in just three days as he attempts to avoid another delay to Britain’s departure from the EU. Leader of the House Jacob Rees-Mogg told MPs debate on the Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB) would start on Tuesday with ministers hoping to get it through all its Commons stages by Thursday. If they are successful it could pave the way for House of Lords to sit over the weekend in time for the Bill to receive its royal assent at the start of next week. However they are likely to face opposition attempts to amend the legislation including the “programme motion” setting out the Commons timetable for the Bill. Mr Rees-Mogg warned MPs that if the programme motion was defeated they w...

Saudi Crown Prince sees £3bn offer to buy Utd rejected

Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman is preparing a third bid for Manchester United, as the future of the Glazer family's ownership remains uncertain. The Saudi royal has previously seen two bids worth in the region of £3billion rejected and the prince's interest in the club shows no signs of waning. On both occasions the Glazer family knocked back the approaches, contending that they are not willing to sell the club at any price. However, according to The Mirror, with ownership uncertainty continuing to grow, United may be more willing to listen to Prince Mohammed's latest offer. Last week, stories emerged that Kevin Glazer was preparing to sell his 13 per cent stake in the club following news that the club will suffer a fall in revenue for the first tim...

Johnson sends unsigned request to EU for Brexit delay

Boris Johnson has sent an unsigned letter to European council president Donald Tusk requesting a further Brexit delay beyond 31 October accompanied by a signed one arguing against it. The prime minister sent three letters: an unsigned photocopy of the request he was obliged to send under the Benn Act, an explanatory letter from the UK’s ambassador to the EU and a personal letter explaining why Downing Street did not want an extension. In the signed message, he warned of the “corrosive impact” of a long delay, and that “a further extension would damage the interests of the UK and our EU partners, and the relationship between us”. He said Parliament had “missed the opportunity to inject momentum into the ratification process” yet remained confident Brexit legislation ...

UK will leave the EU by October 31 despite delay request, says Gove

Michael Gove has insisted the UK will leave the EU by October 31, despite Boris Johnson writing to the EU to ask for a Brexit extension. Asked if he could guarantee that the UK would leave the EU by Halloween, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster said: “Yes, that’s our determined policy." He told Sky News’s Sophy Ridge on Sunday: “We know that the EU want us to leave, we know that we have a deal that allows us to leave.” "We are going to leave by October 31st. We have the means and the ability to do so and people who yesterday we had some people who voted for delay, voted explicitly to try to frustrate this process and to drag it out. “I think actually the mood in the country is clear and the Prime Minister’s determination is absolute and I am with him in this, we...
