The Family man deported after 19 years in the US

After 19 years living and working in the US, paying taxes and raising a family, Mario Hernandez Delacruz, was deported to a country he had not seen for two decades. His daughter, Estrella Garcia, and one of her younger sisters, drove him to the airport in the family’s Jeep Wrangler where he caught a flight to Mexico. On the way, they talked about their plan to carry on appealing his right to live in the US; on the way home, there were just tears. Mr Delacruz has been forced to leave his family in Michigan (Courtesy of family) My mother has been so depressed. My two sisters - aged 15 and 12 - cannot concentrate at school. I’ve have to carry on because I’m now the head of the family, said Ms Garcia, seated in family’s modest home in south-west Detroit. I don’t think [Trump] ...

The second highest number of teachers education cuts in Tower Hamlets

Almost 900 teachers in Tower Hamlets would lose their jobs if changes to the way schools are funded go ahead, it has been claimed today. According to recruitment agency Teachingjobsinlondon.co.uk schools in the borough could be forced to sack 891 teachers, putting it second from top on a list of the worst affected local authorities in London. The worst hit borough is Newham with the equivalent of 1,074 losses and Southwark with 808 is the third worst. The company claims the least affected areas are Richmond Upon Thames (249), Kingston Upon Thames (249) and Merton (204). The analysis used National Union of Teachers (NUT) data which took the total losses in per pupil funding for the borough’s schools and divided the resulting figure by the average Tower Hamlets teacher salar...

North Korea disrespected China with missile test

US President Donald Trump said that North Korea disrespected China by attempting to launch another ballistic missile. President Donald Trump said Friday that North Korea had "disrespected" China by attempting to launch another ballistic missile. Trump has said he is counting on Chinese President Xi Jinping to encourage North Korea to give up its pursuit of ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs. Trump has also said he thinks Xi will do the right thing. China is North Korea's benefactor. But Trump has also threatened to go it alone if Xi fails to deliver. South Korea's military said Friday afternoon that North Korea had fired the missile from an area near the capital of Pyongyang, but provided no details. U.S. and South Korean officials said the launch apparently fa...

EU Says It’s Already Europe 1, Britain 0 as Brexit Reality Dawns

European Union leaders headed into their first Brexit summit are convinced that when it comes to the pending talks with the U.K. they’re already winning. Governments approached Saturday’s meeting in Brussels by repeatedly toughening their negotiating position and reinforcing the united front they adopted since Britain voted to quit the bloc last June. Prime Minister Theresa May’s administration, meanwhile, has shown a willingness to give ground on key matters involving finance, trade and immigration. The British concessions mean EU officials in the 27 countries are increasingly hopeful that May will realize that the terms of Brexit will be set by them more than her. The need for the U.K. to be pragmatic in unraveling 44 years of membership was highlighted this week by Germ...

North Korea fires another ballistic missile, the 75th of Kim Jong Un’s tenure

A submarine-launched ballistic missile is displayed during a military parade in Pyongyang, North Korea, to celebrate the 105th birth anniversary of Kim Il Sung, the country's late founder and grandfather of current ruler Kim Jong… North Korea fired another ballistic missile early Saturday morning, but it exploded within seconds of being launched, American and South Korean defense officials said. Coinciding with renewed diplomatic and military pressure on North Korea from the Trump administration, this latest launch underscores both Kim Jong Un’s determination to make technical progress on his weapons programs and his defiance amid international pressure. President Trump, who was briefed on the launch soon afterward, took to Twitter to reiterate his expectation that Chinese...

The entire Yorkshire village has been sold for £20 million

The entire Yorkshire village has been sold for £20 million A tiny North Yorkshire village with a multi-million pound price tag has been sold one year after it went on the market. Cundalls, the estate agent which handled the sale, announced on Wednesday that Albanwise Ltd, a real investment company, had bought the West Heslerton Estate near the town of Malton. Cundalls received substantial interest in the sale of West Heslerton Estate and a number of offers in excess of the guide price were received with an offer from Albanwise Ltd being the successful purchaser, Tom Watson, the acting agent said in a statement. The sale price has not been disclosed, but it is believed to have been close to the guide price of £20 million. For this considerable sum, the buyer has got hold of...

Queen to dress down for parlament speech

The Queen's massive 3-lb. crown will not adorn her head this year. On Thursday, the palace said there would be reduced ceremonial elements at the annual state opening of Parliament, which is set to take place on June 19 due to the recently called general election in the U.K. That means the 91-year-old monarch will travel to Westminster Abbey by car (rather than horse-drawn carriage) -and for the first time since 1974, she will not wear a crown to the ceremony. Because the state opening is taking place on June 19, the annual Order of the Garter parade and service at Windsor Castle - which sees Elizabeth lead plumed knights, including her grandson Prince William is being canceled. Trooping the Colour, which marks the official celebration of the Queen's birthday, will take pl...

Trump says he thought being president would be easier than his old life

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during an interview with Reuters in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, U.S., April 27, 2017. He misses driving, feels as if he is in a cocoon, and is surprised how hard his new job is. President Donald Trump on Thursday reflected on his first 100 days in office with a wistful look at his life before the White House. I loved my previous life. I had so many things going, Trump told Reuters in an interview. This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier. A wealthy businessman from New York, Trump assumed public office for the first time when he entered the White House on Jan. 20 after he defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an upset. More than five months after his victory and two day...

North Korea puts out new video showing the White House in crosshairs and carriers exploding

A North Korean propaganda outlet released a video clip on Thursday showing simulated attacks on the United States and declaring that the enemy to be destroyed is in our sights. The video comes at a particularly tense time in relations between North Korea and the United States, with the Trump administration sending warships to the region in a show of force against Kim Jong Un’s regime. This week, North Korea conducted large-scale artillery drills, showing off conventional weaponry that can easily reach South Korea’s capital, Seoul, the center of a metropolitan region that is home to about 25 million people. President Trump, who has been urging China to apply pressure on North Korea and has warned that his administration will act if Beijing doesn’t, convened members of Congr...

May says EU is opposing Britain after Merkel warns UK to have no illusions

British Prime Minister Theresa May accused the other 27 EU countries of lining up to oppose Britain over Brexit after Germany's Angela Merkel said the UK should have no illusions over the exit process. A third-party state will not have the same rights or even superior rights to a member state, the German chancellor told parliament two days before a key summit in Brussels. This may sound self-evident, but I have to say this clearly because some in Britain seem to have illusions on this point, she said. That would be a waste of time. Later in the day, May accused the 27 other EU member states of lining up against Britain. Our opponents are already seeking to disrupt those negotiations -- at the same time as 27 other European countries line up to oppose us, May told a campaig...
