Here’s what Meghan Markle’s title will be if she marries Prince Harry

Meghan Markle is an accomplished woman in her own right. She's the star of TV drama Suits,a thoughtful writer, an activist who's worked with the UN, and the creator of an affordable fashion line. She's also dating Prince Harry of the British Royal family a fact that's sent the media into a full-on frenzy. Early tabloid articles about the couple were often invasive and sometimes flat-out racist (one said Markle had "exotic DNA"). Eventually Prince Harry was compelled to release a statement that simultaneously confirmed their relationship and condemned the way the media was covering it. Things have calmed down a bit since then, though paparazzi cameras did capture the couple attending a wedding together in Jamaica. Now royals fans are wondering whether or not Markle and Prin...

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner keep property assets while in White House

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner arrive on Air Force One to accompany U.S. President Donald Trump for his tour of the Boeing South Carolina facility in North Charleston, South Carolina, U.S. February 17, 2017. Donald Trump’s daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, are retaining scores of property investments while they work in the White House, according to financial disclosures likely to fuel concerns over a conflict of interest. The Associated Press reported that the couple are holding on to assets of at least $240m while the New York Times, making a case that Kushner will continue to benefit from most of his business empire through a series of trusts, gave a figure of $741m. The details came to light on Friday as the White House began releasing financial d...

Revealed: How Isis turns normal towns and villages into theatres and factories of death

The Syrian soldiers in this dust-covered, rubbelised town don’t smile very much and their battle fatigue is obvious. They wear an assortment of T-shirts and scarves and black headbands – not unlike their Isis enemies -- and when a radio crackles the news that an officer has been killed by a mine in a neighbouring village, they show no immediate reaction. Combat troops don’t look like the men at headquarters with their neat uniforms and clip-boards and strategic explanations. But in Deir Hafer, these Syrian soldiers are lucky. Twelve hours ago, their Isis enemies – rather than fighting to the death -- suddenly fled for their lives. The crushed buildings and flattened houses of this empty provincial town on the highway to Raqqa show just what happened. The Syrian and Russian...

London shop-worker held at detention centre awaiting deportation after 27 years in UK

A shop-worker who has lived in Britain for 27 years is facing deportation after being detained by immigration officers. Stojan Jankovic, 52, has worked at Earth Natural Foods in Camden, London for 15 years but is currently being held at a detention centre in Dorset while officials attempt to remove him from the country. Mr Jankovic arrived in the UK in 1991 from the then Republic of Yugoslavia, but his application for asylum is understood to have been refused. It is believed his leave to remain in the country expired in 1999 but he has been working and paying taxes since then without encountering any problems. Mr Jankovic's boss, John Grayson, described him to the Camden New Journal as “kindly, avuncular, cheerful [and] reliable". “I don’t think he’s had a day off sick in ...

EU won’t pursue harsh divorce settlement because Brexit is punitive enough

Donald Tusk says the EU won't pursue a punitive divorce settlement with the UK because Brexit is punitive enough. The European Council President said the UK will have to wait to start negotiating a trade deal until after the divorce deal has made sufficient progress. And he said the idea Theresa May sought to use international terror security as a bargaining chip in the negotiations must be a misunderstanding. In draft negotiation guidelines issued to the 27 remaining member states today, Mr Tusk announced a phased approach to negotiations. He spoke firmly in a press conference in Valetta, Malta, insisting parallel negotiations will not happen. He said: We treat [the principles announced today] as fundamental and will stand by them. And he said reciprocal, enforceable guar...

Angry Trump tells Freedom Caucus to get on the team after healthcare failure

Donald Trump Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to the hard right of the Republican party, warning them to get on the team or face consequences at the ballot box. The US president tweeted on Thursday: The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018! In a disastrous setback to his agenda, Trump’s bid to repeal and replace Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law crumbled last week after he failed to convince a number of House members, including most of the Freedom Caucus, to support it. Trump initially blamed Democrats for not backing the new bill, but he has since shifted his focus to take swipes at the Freedom Caucus. His tweet carried the implied threat that he will support chal...

MPs cheered in the House of Commons as the Brexit Secretary told them Britain would be regaining the sovereignty it last enjoyed in 1972. That process starts now.” A day after Theresa May began the Brexit process by invoking Article 50, European leaders entrenched their positions on thei...

Donald and Melania Trump are doing just fine, according to a friend

Donald and Melania Trump are doing just fine, according to a friend Despite recent rumours that President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have been going through a rough patch, a close friend of the couple insists that this isn't the case. In an interview with the Washington Post on Monday, Karen LeFrak - a longtime friend of the couple and wife of developer Richard LeFrak - was asked how Trump was adjusting to her new role as first lady, and how the change has affected her marriage, if at all. Mrs. Trump is enjoying her life and new role, she said, adding that [she and her husband] are very happy! Their relationship is great.
