Women were asked to send naked photos of themselves (picture posed by a model)Hundreds of photos and videos of naked women used as collateral for loans on a Chinese online lending service have leaked onto the web, highlighting regulatory problems in the fast-growing peer-to-peer marketplace. A 10-gigabyte file posted on the internet exposed the personal details of more than 160 young women who were asked to provide the explicit material to secure money through online lending platform Jiedaibao. Launched by JD Capital in 2015, Jiedaibao allows lenders to operate anonymously but requires borrowers to reveal their real names when making transactions. Loan amounts and interest rates can be customised to meet the needs of users - often people who have a hard time accessing loan...

Saudi Arabia sentences 15 people to death for spying for Iran

A Saudi court on Tuesday sentenced 15 people to death for spying for the kingdom's arch-adversary Iran, Saudi-owned media reported, a ruling that could heighten antagonism between the regional powers. The Specialised Criminal Court in Riyadh sentenced 15 other defendants to prison terms ranging from six months to 25 years, and acquitted two of them, the Arabic-language al-Riyadh newspaper said on its website. The defendants - comprising 30 Saudi Shi'ite Muslims, one Iranian and an Afghan - were detained in 2013 on charges of espionage for Iran and went on trial in February. Tuesday's rulings are subject to appeal, and death sentences must go to the king for ratification. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi denied that any Iranian spying had occurred in Saudi A...

Trump is Time magazine Person of the Year

Time magazine has named US President-elect Donald Trump as its Person of the Year. "It's a great honour, it means a lot," Mr Trump told NBC's Today show in an interview shortly after the announcement. Time's managing editor Nancy Gibbs called the choice "straightforward". The magazine wrote that it had chosen Mr Trump for reminding America that demagoguery feeds on despair and that truth is only as powerful as the trust in those who speak it, for empowering a hidden electorate by mainstreaming its furies and live-streaming its fears, and for framing tomorrow's political culture by demolishing yesterday's. Every TIME Person Of The Year Cover EverIt is the 90th time the magazine has named a person who has had "the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the...

UK facing tsunami threat could devastate British coastal towns

UK facing tsunami threat from unstable Canary IslandThe UK is facing the threat of a tsunami which is being downplayed, an expert has claimed. Unstable volcanic land in La Palma, Canary Islands, could trigger an eruption and set off the natural disaster , scientists warn. Research suggests a part of land the volume of the Isle of Man could break away from Britain and smash into the Atlantic Ocean. This could result in a huge tsunami with waves up to three metres high, threatening to swallow coastal towns such as Plymouth. The looming tsunami would travel faster than a jet aircraft, and would devastate much of southern Britain as well as the eastern seaboard of America, reports Plymouth Herald . Dr Simon Day, of University College London, said the country needed to prepare ...

EU citizens will need ID after Brexit

Three million EU citizens living in the UK will need to have some form of ID documents following Brexit, the Home Secretary Amber Rudd has told MPs. And in a slap-down for the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, she also said foreign students are likely to remain in the Government's target to cut immigration to the tens of thousands. The Home Secretary's warning that Europeans living in the UK will require documentation came in reply to a question from the senior Labour MP Hilary Benn, who chairs the new Brexit Select Committee of MPs. "There will be a need to have some sort of documentation ... but we are not going to set it out yet," she said. "We are going to do it in a phased approach, to ensure that we use all the technology advantages that we are increasingly able to ha...

If China doesn’t like it, screw em as diplomatic row escalates: Donald Trump adviser says

Donald Trump should not worry about insulting China and if Beijing objects to him speaking to Taiwan, screw em, an economic adviser to the US president-elect has said. Stephen Moore, chief economist of The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington, said Mr Trump was right to risk China's displeasure by speaking on the phone with the president of Taiwan, which the Chinese regard as a breakaway province. He said: "Too many namby-pamby people in the foreign policy shop are saying Oh my gosh we can't do this, we might insult the Chinese.' I don't care if we insult the Chinese. "Taiwan is our ally. That is a country that we have backed because they believe in freedom. We ought to back our ally, and if China doesn't like it, screw 'em." Mr Moore added: "We s...

Muslim enforcer Michael Coe jailed for attacking school boy

A close associate of hate preacher Anjem Choudary who beat up a schoolboy because he was cuddling his girlfriend has been jailed for more than two years. Michael Coe, 35, sat with his hands behind his head as Judge Michael Gledhill QC branded him a self-appointed enforcer" who was prepared to resort to violence where necessary. The Muslim convert left the 16-year-old boy bloodied and bruised from the attack, after spotting him hugging his girlfriend on a street corner in East Ham. Coe, who converted to radical Islam while in prison with an al Qaeda terrorist, quizzed the young couple about their faith and branded the girl a “whore” for the public display of affection. He flung the boy to the ground and then attacked a teacher who tried to intervene. Coe denied assaulting t...

EU’s chief Brexit fixer urges UK to keep calm and negotiate

The EU's chief Brexit negotiator has insisted that his team are ready to start divorce talks with the UK, calling for the parties to keep calm and negotiate. Michel Barnier made the reference to the famous British Second World War Two poster Keep Calm and Carry On as he spoke in Brussels on Tuesday morning (6 December). We are entering uncharted waters, he warned. The work will be legally complex, politically sensitive and it will have important consequences for our economies and people on both sides of the [English] Channel. The French politician called for an orderly withdrawal and said he had used the past two months since his appointment to prepare for complex negotiations with the UK. Barnier has so far visited 18 of 28 EU nations ahead of the talks and hopes to compl...

Rosemere do Nascimento Silva, 32, had planned to surprise her fiancé Udirley Damasceno and 300 guests by swooping in to their reception in a rural area on the outskirts of Sao Paulo in Brazil. But in an horrendous twist of fate, the aircraft crashed en route to the venue, killing the bride-to-be, her brother, the pilot and a photographer who was six-months-pregnant. Mr Damasceno was left waiting at the altar, unaware of what his fiancée was planning to do, or of the tragic consequences. Police and air crash investigators are now trying to establish what caused the crash. They are looking into reports that it might have hit a tree during ba...
