French PM Manuel Valls says refugee crisis is destabilising Europe

    The French prime minister, Manuel Valls, has said Europe cannot take in all the refugees fleeing wars in Iraq and Syria and that the crisis was putting the concept of Europe itself in grave danger. Speaking to the BBC at the economic forum in Davos, Valls said Europe needed to take urgent action to control its external borders. “Otherwise,” he said, “our societies will be totally destabilised.” Asked about border controls inside Europe, which many fear put the passport-free Schengen zone at risk, Valls said the concept of Europe was in jeopardy. “If Europe is not capable of protecting its own borders, it’s the very idea of Europe that will be questioned,” he said.     India is all set to deliver as it wants to hand over the first lot of 20 coaches by this month, according to sources in the Bangladesh Railway (BR). On January 21 last year, the BR signed an agreement with RITES Ltd., a Government of India enterprise, to purchase 120 BG coaches under the project “Procurement of 120 BG coaches” under the first Indian LoC. The RITES Ltd. submitted a delivery schedule under which 120 coaches will be delivered in six equal lots to Bangladesh, starting from January 2016 and the sixth lot will be delivered in July 2016. The BR allocated Tk. 563.52 crore in the Annual Development Programme in line with that delivery schedule.     A father who was publicly identified by a high court judge for sexually assaulting his baby daughter shortly before she died has fled abroad after receiving death threats, his family has said. Paul Worthington, 48, has denied harming 13-month-old Poppi – who died in December 2012 – but a ruling published this week concluded on the balance of probabilities he had sexually assaulted her before her death. These vehicles enter the country through different borders by dodging immigration and customs offi-cials. Though several are later impounded by law enforcers, many of them manage to hoodwink the au-thorities concerned. According to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in Sylhet, there are as many as 111 foreign luxury vehicles in the city, which have been running without paying taxes. Sex crimes reported to police at highest level since current records began

    The number of rapes and other sex crimes reported to police are at their highest level since current records began, new figures show. Sex offences reported to forces in England and Wales rose by 26,606 in the year to September 2015, an increase of 36% on the previous 12 months, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) found. The 43 forces recorded just under 100,000 sex offences in total, the highest figure since the current method of reporting began in 2003. The ONS report said forces recorded 33,431 rapes and 66,178 other sexual offences, a total of 99,609 that was the highest since the National Crime Recording Standard was introduced 13 years ago.     Britain is to spend another £30m on shelter, warm clothes, hot food and medical supplies for 27,000 children and babies who have fled fighting in Syria. The aid has been announced by the International Development Secretary, Justine Greening, who is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos with David Cameron. The special help for the most vulnerable victims of the Syrian civil war as winter bites in Europe comes as the Prime Minister pleads with world leaders to provide more support for the refugees.
