The centre's security department says CCTV footage supports the men's claims. The videos have been handed over to the police for further investigation. Britain sees in 2016 with massive London police presence

Thousands of police officers watched over New Year revellers as the night sky above London was illuminated by a spectacular fireworks display. Crowds gathered on the banks of the Thames and in city centres across the UK to see the start of 2016. Around 3,000 officers were deployed across central London, including firearms police, at a time of heightened global security in the wake of the Paris terror attacks. Many braved the intermittent spells of rain awaiting a midnight display featuring around 12,000 fireworks which produced 50,000 projectiles. The celebrations went ahead as planned, despite a similar display in Brussels being cancelled due to safety concerns. The Edinburgh Hogmanay also saw several firework displays above the city's castle, as well as a performance fro...

2015 events that Bangladeshis would want to forget

Faced with a deadly political confrontation at the beginning of the year, Bangladeshis witnessed unprecedented persecution and death threats to freethinkers leading to the killings of bloggers, writers and foreign nationals through the year. The country was shaken by the unearthing of mass graves in Thailand and Malaysia where large number of Bangladeshi migrants and trafficking victims were later learnt to have been buried. The gruesome killing of young boy Rajon in broad daylight followed by cold-blooded murder of Rakib exposed the grave state of child abuse in the country. 1. Countrywide blockade Political unrest in 2015 caused greater damage to Bangladesh's economy than that in 2013 when the nation's two main political blocs fought each other over general elections. Tickets have sold out for the London Mayor’s official fireworks display on the South Bank. Those without tickets are being advised to see the new year in at home or at bars across the capital. The Metropolitan Police said the enhanced patrols are "purely precautionary and not as a result of any specific intelligence". Sky sources said some officers have had leave cancelled to bolster numbers. Around 3,000 officers will be on duty in central London, Scotland Yard said. Superintendent Jo Edwards added: "Our policing plan remains under constant review and the public can expect to see additional police officers...

December smashes rain and temperature records

Storms including Frank, Eva and Desmond have contributed to make one of the wettest Decembers on record, while temperatures have risen to smash previous highs for the time of year. Early provisional statistics from the Met Office suggest the UK mean temperature between 1 and 29 December was a record-breaking 8 °C which is 4.1 °C above the long-term average, beating the previous record of 6.9 °C, which was reached in 1934. This is the highest anomaly above a long-term average temperature for any month since 1910 - temperatures were closer to what we might normally experience during April or May, the Met Office said. On top of that, it has been the wettest December on record for Scotland (333.1 mm), and Wales (321 mm), while it is currently Northern Ireland's fourth wettest ...

Essex Roads Deliberately Booby Trapped

Roads in Essex are being deliberately booby trapped with concrete blocks, wood and barbed wire, police are warning. The obstacles have been left on unlit sections of road and have already caused thousands of pounds' worth of damage to four cars and a bus. According to officers, there have been nine incidents reported in the area of Tiptree, southwest of Colchester, in just over a week. Chief Inspector Nick Lee said: "The first couple of reports of items found were thought to be debris that had fallen in the road, but it is now clear that there has been a pattern to these incidents and the items have been deliberately placed in the road with the intention of causing danger to motorists. "We have been very fortunate so far that no motorists or other road users have been inju...
