PM’s adviser lies

Prime Minister's Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam once again misinformed the media yesterday when he claimed that he took the premier's consent to hold a press conference to “clarify” his recent controversial statement. Just when he was briefing reporters in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a meeting with her cabinet colleagues said Imam didn't take her consent. Several cabinet members told The Daily Star that Hasina made the comment when some ministers sought her views on Imam's recent remarks at a Chhatra League programme where he assured the activists of help once they overcame the hurdle of written test at BCS exams. His other comments at the programme four days ago also drew sharp reactions from different quarters. In his 50-minute speech, he narrated how the Awam...

The amazing Impossible folding bike

The folding bicycle concept There are currently quite a number of manufacturers and startups developing folding bicycles, and it's an idea that makes a lot of sense: a bike that you can fold up and stow away under your desk means you don't have to look for an outside parking rack or worry about your cycle getting stolen while you're busy inside. It also means you can make journeys using multiple modes of transport more easily — car and bike, train and bike, and so on. Few folding bicycles are quite as compact as the Impossible bike though, which has just appeared on Kickstarter and can fit in a standard-sized backpack.

Are You Experiencing Hair Loss?

Breakthrough Keratin Technology Conceals Thinning Hair in Seconds If you suffer from thinning hair, you're not alone. By age 35, two-thirds of British men will experience some degree of appreciable hair loss, and by 50 approximately 85 percent have significantly thinning hair. Even more startling, women actually make up forty percent of British hair loss sufferers. Needless to say, thinning hair can be horrible for a person's self-esteem — making you feel old and unattractive. It can also have a negative impact on your career. A recent Yale study found that men who were perceived as having a thick set of hair were 65 percent more likely to be promoted to senior positions and were seen as "having greater competence" in the work environment than those with thinning hair. Fortunately, the...

Drive against unfit vehicles

Drive against unfit vehicles Make it a regular phenomenon On November 10, the BRTA with police assistance cracked down on unfit vehicles plying Dhaka city roads. According to BRTA data, some 350,000 vehicles are operating in the country without fitness certificates, 93,000 in Dhaka city alone. While we wholeheartedly welcome this crackdown against vehicles, including public transports, that have not bothered to take fitness certificates, we remain sceptical as to whether a summary drive will achieve desired results. With many buses staying off the road altogether, all the drive managed to do was add to the woes of some 15 million residents of the capital. The crux of the problem is that the laxity with which police treats the issue of enforcing regulations with regard to vehicles carr...
