Tower Hamlets Council has been shortlisted for five LGC Awards, 2018

Tower Hamlets Council has been shortlisted for five LGC Awards, 2018.

The awards, run by Local Government Chronicle, are the biggest and most prestigious awards ceremony for the local government sector. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 21 March 2018.

Nearly 100 organisations have been shortlisted as finalists in the coveted awards, which recognise the best of local government innovation and service delivery.

The shortlisted projects in Tower Hamlets are: TH Carbon Fund, in the environmental services category; Blackwall Reach Regeneration Project in the housing Initiative category; Poplar Baths and Dame Colet House, also in the housing initiative category; and Tabard Court Mental Health Forensic Supported Living in the health and social care category.

Tower Hamlets Substance Misuse Team made the shortlist for team of the year.

Organisers of the awards said the high quality of this year’s entries demonstrate local government’s enthusiasm to innovate in an era in which councils’ budgets have been cut.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs said: “Five nominations for LGC awards is a fantastic achievement and highlights our commitment to delivering excellent services for residents in ways that are inventive and cost effective. I am really pleased that the work of council staff has been recognised and wish all those shortlisted all the best in next year’s finals.”

LGC editor Nick Golding said: “To be shortlisted for an LGC Award shows a council service is among the country’s most innovative, and doing the most to support the needs of local residents as councils face continuing budget cuts. We should salute the council officers and councillors doing the most to ensure our vital public services thrive in the era of austerity.”
