Another blast of heavy snow and ice is set to cause travel chaos across large parts of the UK with the country shivering through the coldest week of winter.
Severe weather warnings are place from Monday night – with more than 2ins of snow possible through Wales, Northern Ireland, most of Scotland, northern England and the Midlands before Tuesday afternoon.
Hail and thunder are possible in western Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland.
A further 4ins of snow may fall by Wednesday morning in parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Drivers have been told to prepare for hazardous driving conditions due to heavy snow and ice that is expected to cover many routes.

Central, Tayside and Fife
Rain and snow will spread east overnight into Tuesday morning, giving a slight covering in most places by dawn, the Met Office says.
A mix of snow and wintry showers is possible from Wednesday to Friday.
Grampian
As the temperature drops to -3C, rain and snow will move east in the early hours.
There will be a few snow showers across Moray and western Aberdeenshire on Tuesday.
Snow and wintry showers are expected through the rest of the week.
Highlands and Eilean Siar
The Hebrides will see rain later Monday afternoon and as it moves east overnight it will turn increasingly into snow down to sea level across the mainland.
Tuesday will be bright with scattered snow showers, mainly across the Hebrides and western Highlands.
This area is also bracing for snow and wintry showers between Wednesday and Friday.
Orkney and Shetland
Rain will turn to sleet over higher ground later on Monday.
Snow showers have been forecast for Tuesday, and they will be more frequent across Orkney.
The rest of the week will see snow showers and rain at times.
SW Scotland, Lothian and Borders
Sleet and snow will spread east through Monday evening and early Tuesday morning as the temperature plunges to -3C.
On Tuesday there will be a few showers across Galloway.
It’s a similar story for this region, with rain, snow and wintry showers likely from Wednesday to Friday.
Strathclyde
A band of sleet and slow will spread east starting Monday night.
It will be followed by snow showers across western Argyll on Tuesday.
The rest of the week will bring a mix of rain, snow and wintry showers.
Northern Ireland
Sleet and snow will move east through Monday night and will be followed by wintry showers especially in the west.
Scattered snow showers on Tuesday will be more frequent across northern and western counties. Snow is likely to be confined to hills above 100m over Northern Ireland, and northern areas could get hail and thunder.
Rain and snow will move in later on Wednesday with more wintry showers on Thursday and Friday.
Wales
The temperature will be a chilly -5C when rain, sleet and snow arrive in the north-west before dawn on Tuesday.
The snow will become heavier and there will be wintry showers.
Wednesday will be cold and bright, and rain or wintry showers are due to return on Thursday and Friday.
North East England
Wintry showers will largely fade away later on Monday, and most areas will see a little snow by dawn on Tuesday.
There will be slight accumulations during the morning.
Wednesday will be cold and clear, while Thursday will see the return of rain and sleet, with blustery snow showers on Friday.
North West England
Light wintry flurries were possible on Monday morning, and more snow is expected overnight with the temperature hitting -4C.
Sleet and snow will through Tuesday morning, but there will still be a small risk for isolated wintry showers along western coasts.
Cold and clear conditions on Wednesday will be followed by sleet, snow and blustery showers on Thursday and Friday.
East Midlands
Some light snow accumulation was expected Monday morning and it will be drier through the day with freezing fog possible starting late at night around the Fens and Trent valley.
A little snow is likely in some places by Tuesday afternoon, followed by cold and clear weather on Wednesday.
Thursday will see a little rain later in the day, perhaps giving way to sleet and snow on Friday.
West Midlands
Monday night will be very cold and frosty with some freezing fog patches before dawn on Tuesday as the temperature drops to -5C.
Sleet and snow will move south-eastwards Tuesday morning.
After a cold and bright Wednesday, rain will return on Thursday, and there will be some wintry showers into Friday.
Yorkshire and Humber
A few wintry showers are expected Monday and there will be a little snow Tuesday morning with the temperature at -3C.
There will be some snow through the morning before clearing through Wednesday.
Thursday will be breezier with a little rain and sleet, while Friday will start similar and bring isolated snow showers.
London and South East England
Sleet, snow showers and fierce winds should mainly affect eastern districts on Monday, with some snow accumulation possibly especially over the North Downs.
Mist may form late in the night with the temperature at -4C, along with freezing fog patches on Tuesday morning.
There could be patchy snow later Tuesday, a few snow flurries on Wednesday and rain or sleet on Friday after a frosty Thursday.
South West England
Some snow showers were possible on Exmoor on Monday.
Tuesday morning will see freezing fog patches, followed by patchy rain, sleet and snow.
Wednesday will bring some showers in the west, while more rain or wintry showers are likely for the rest of the week.
Weather will be bitterly cold
Colder temperatures and more wintry showers will return for the weekend and this will signal a spell of more wintry, changeable weather.
It will remain colder than normal, with the risk of snow as a wave of frontal systems smash into the cold air and stubbornly park across Britain throughout the weekend.
A spokesperson for The Weather Channel said: “It will turn bitterly cold this week as air is dragged in from the east with high pressure dominating from Scandinavia.
There will be widespread frosts and snow around through the week leading to a risk of ice. Highs will be 2-4C below the average but it will seem like -3 to -5C in the north-easterly winds.
Rain will turn to snow in the north-west overnight into Tuesday falling at low levels for a time. Remaining Unsettled and cold through the week with some moderate frosts and risk of ice.
