Trump’s effort to hide hair loss revealed for a moment

Many have wondered, but nobody knows what exactly is going on with Trump’s hair.

We’re now closer to the truth than ever, thanks to a new video.

The video captures the president going up the steps to Air Force One on February 2, about to head to his Mar a Lago resort for the weekend. It’s a windy day, and Trump was positively buffeted by a cross wind that dislodged a flap of hair covering the rear of his head. The flap is pushed forward, revealing a curiously bare section of Trump’s head.

Jonathan Chait of New York Magazine said it reveals the “absurd efforts” Trump has taken to conceal his hair loss.

The video — which some assumed was fake or doctored due to the severity of its contents seems to have been taken by Reuters TV, and was reposted on YouTube in part by the Stranger, a Seattle alternative weekly newspaper. Pictures taken that same day seem to corroborate what happens in the video. A tweet by journalist Ashley Feinberg first called attention to the video.

The bare back of Trump’s head could confirm a long-rumored theory. Many have speculated, including a hair transplant surgeon that spoke with Business Insider in 2015, that Trump has probably received a hair transplant at some point in his life likely in the 80s or 90s.

Donald Trump When transplantation is done, hair is taken from the sides and back of the head, and transplanted to the top. These hairs, for whatever reason, are more resilient to the hormone that kills hair follicles and causes hair loss.

Now, surgeons typically use something called FUE follicle unit extraction to take individual hair follicles from and transplant them. Then, it’s not clear what technology was available. It’s possible that Trump, if he had hair transplantation done, had entire strips of hair taken from the rear of his head and put on top. That would explain the bare rear, and why he seems to grow it long in his elaborate hair style.

Trump also takes Finasteride, a drug that has been proven to stop hair loss and is often prescribed to patients after hair transplant surgery to prevent additional hair loss.

So there you have it. The best explanation yet for what exactly is happening in Trump’s hair. At least, until the next gust of wind reveals more.
