Peter Bone today led Tory outrage at Theresa May’s Brexit deal saying it does not deliver the Brexit people voted for.
The Brexiteer MP confronted the Prime Minister to her face with a damning assessment of the deal her Cabinet will decide on this afternoon.
Mr Bone MP told Theresa May during Prime Minister’s Questions: Is the Prime Minister aware that if reports are accurate you are not delivering the Brexit people voted for and today you will lose the support of many Conservative MPs and millions of voters across the country.
The Tory had MP had previously been supportive of May’s negotiations with the EU and said she could be the Queen of Brexit.
It comes as dozens of hard Brexiteer Tories from the European Research Group prepare to vote against the deal in the House of Commons.
The small clutch of Remain-backing Tories could vote against it too.
Fellow Tory Phillip Lee, who supports the anti-Brexit group Best for Britain and resigned in protest at Brexit, agreed with Mr Bone.
He said: Where we’re going to end up is not where was promised. This is political fraud, and I’m not putting my name to it.
If the public, having read the deal, having understood that Northern Ireland is going to be treated differently, having understood that we’re going to be taking the obligations but not the benefits of EU membership.
If they understand all that and vote for it, then I’m a democrat and I’ll respect that. None of that appeared on the side of a bus in 2016.
Bone had an unlikely ally in Jeremy Corbyn who likewise attacked the deal.
Mr Corbyn who himself supports staying in a customs union with the EU said the bungled deal was a failure on its own terms after two years of bungled negotiations.
