UK now in Covid third wave as 80% of towns and cities see cases rise
The UK is definitely experiencing a third wave of Covid infections with more than 80 per cent of towns and cities in England recording a weekly rise in cases.
In the past week the number of people testing positive has risen by a third, with 61,181 new infections confirmed after the Delta variant forced Boris Johnson to postpone Freedom Day until at least next month.
The number of infections passed 10,000 per day for the first time since February this week - sparking a race between the spread of the virus and the vaccine programme. Speaking this morning, Professor Adam Finn, who advises the Government on the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), said a third wave of coronavirus infections is definitely under way.
