Melania Trump’s new portrait divides public opinion

The White House on Monday released the official portrait of First Lady Melania Trump, with the photograph of the former model dividing public opinion. Trump is shown from the waist up, standing with arms crossed, dressed in a black jacket with a black bow around her neck. She’s wearing a very large diamond ring on her left hand, and a more subdued sparkler on her right. Shot by Belgian-born photographer Regine Mahaux, who has previously worked with the Trump family, the first lady is smiling slightly, with a perfectly flawless visage. I am honored to serve in the role of first lady, and look forward to working on behalf of the American people over the coming years, Trump said in a short statement accompanying the photo’s release.     Donald Trump recently sat down with the Financial Times for his first interview with the publication since becoming President in January. They discussed his conduct as President, his Twitter presence, Brexit, and the relationship between the US, China and North Korea. Trump was discussing his upcoming meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping when asked if he was going to equalise tariffs in order to cut down the country's trade surplus. But, er, we're not sure if he knows what tariffs are... Speaking to Lionel Barber, the editor of the Financial Times Trump said: I don’t want to talk about tariffs yet, perhaps the next time we meet. So I don’t want to talk about tariffs yet. But you used the word equalise. That is a very good word because they are not equalised. If yo...

North Korea develops nuclear weapons with stolen money from Bangladesh Bank

Cyber security firm Kaspersky Lab on Monday said it had obtained digital evidence that bolsters suspicions by some researchers that North Korea was involved in last year’s $81 million cyber heist of the Bangladesh central bank’s account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Russian-based Kaspersky released a 58-page report on Lazarus, a group linked to the heist in Bangladesh and the 2014 attack on Sony’s Hollywood studio, which the US government blamed on North Korea. Among its findings, the report said Lazarus hackers made a direct connection from an IP address in North Korea to a server in Europe that was used to control systems infected by the group. Kaspersky researcher Vitaly Kamluk told Reuters by telephone that the finding marked ‘the first time we have seen a d...

Theresa May’s timeline for EU negotiations unrealistic: warns Germany’s foreign minister

Germany’s Foreign Minister has cast doubt on Theresa May’s insistence that both a Brexit divorce deal and new free trade agreement with the EU can be completed by 2019. In an exclusive interview with The Independent, Sigmar Gabriel said new trade relations would be a laborious endeavour, suggesting the UK may have to settle for simply getting as far as we can in the two years allowed for talks. Mr Gabriel, also Angela Merkel’s Vice Chancellor, then said Ms May must give "certainty" that the UK will settle its Brexit divorce bill before talks begin on any future trade deal between Britain and Europe. As Mr Gabriel prepares to meet Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, he also dealt a further blow to the Prime Minister’s attempts to tie security to trade talks, saying the fight a...
