Tower Hamlets Counil pays for 23 more Police Officers on the beat

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, has announced a multi-million pound investment in community safety to increase the number of council funded police officers in the borough to thirty-nine (39). The Mayor raised concerns that cuts to the police's budget has reduced the number of police in Tower Hamlets and has committed £3m of funding over the next three years to help protect neighbourhood policing. The police officers are tasked with tackling areas where crime and anti-social behaviour are issues and they will tackle acid attacks, drug dealing and violent crime. 14 officers will be responsible for tackling crime on estates and 25 additional officers will work across the borough. A new 'Designing Out Crime' officer will also help planners, housing providers and developers to ensure that f...

Melania Trump takes dim view of Ivana Trump’s comment

Melania Trump had a message for US President Donald Trump’s first wife Ivana on Monday: Enough of the self serving comments. The US first lady was responding to Ivana Trump’s interview on ABC’s Good Morning America program in which she jokingly referred to herself as first lady while promoting her book, Raising Trump. I have the direct number to White House but I don’t really want to call him there because Melania is there, the Czech-American, who was married to Donald Trump from 1977 to 1992, told ABC. I don’t really want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I’m basically first Trump wife, OK? I’m first lady, OK? Melania Trump’s spokeswoman issued a statement that mentioned her son with Donald Trump, Barron. Mrs. Trump has made the White House a ho...

Why US officials fear North Korea could launch missile today

US Government officials say they fear North Korea could launch a missile today as the rogue nation celebrates a public holiday. October 10 in North Korea is celebrated as Party Foundation Day, the day the ruling party of North Korea - now known as the Workers' Party of Korea was formed in 1945. An official spoke to Reuters, on the condition of anonymity, saying there had been indications a missile launch could be scheduled, but couldn't reveal any further intelligence. That comes after a Russian lawmaker, who has just return from Pyongyang last week, said preparations were underway. They are preparing for new tests of a long-range missile, Anton Morozov told Russian media. They even gave us mathematical calculations that they believe prove that their missile can hit the we...

Russia accused US of pretending to fight Islamic State in Syria and Iraq

Spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry, Major-General Igor Konashenkov speaks during a news conference, dedicated to the crash of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane operating flight MH17, in Moscow, Russia, September 26, 2016. Russia accused the United States on Tuesday of pretending to fight Islamic State and of deliberately reducing its air strikes in Iraq to allow the group’s militants to stream into Syria to slow the Russian-backed advance of the Syrian army. In the latest sign of rising tensions between Moscow and Washington, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the US-led coalition had sharply reduced its air strikes in Iraq in September when Syrian forces, backed by Russian air power, had started to retake Deir al-Zor Province. Everyone sees...

Brexit Backup threatens to clog this crucial artery to 17 Mile

Every day as many as 10,000 trucks rumble through the Port of Dover, whose towering white cliffs face continental Europe across the narrowest stretch of the English Channel. Rigs loaded with French cheese, German car parts, and other European goods roll off ferries and onto British highways, while trucks hauling Scotch whisky and Welsh lamb bound for the Continent glide through passport checks in two minutes on average. Traffic through the facility amounts to almost a fifth of all the U.K.’s trade in goods, worth about £122 billion ($165 billion) annually. Brexit threatens to clog this crucial artery. Port officials warn that increasing the average time it takes trucks to clear customs by as little as two minutes could lead to 17-mile (27-kilometer) traffic jams. And with ...

British PM urged the public to prepare for no deal Brexit

Theresa May has warned the British public to prepare for crashing out of the EU with no deal, setting out emergency plans to avoid border meltdown for businesses and travellers. As hopes of an agreement appeared to fade at home and abroad, the Prime Minister for the first time set out detailed steps to minimise disruption on Brexit day in 2019. They included plans for huge inland lorry parks to cope with the lengthy new customs checks that will be needed to avoid ports becoming traffic-choked. The move came as Ms May admitted she expected the deadlocked negotiations to drag on for another year before any possible breakthrough. At Westminster, Brexiteer Tories exploited the Prime Minister’s weakness after last week’s attempted coup to demand that Chancellor Philip Hammond, ...

Zahid Hussain who Isis supporter jailed for life after trying to make fairy lights bomb in Birmingham

An Isis supporter who tried to make a bomb in his parents house after being bedroom radicalised by propaganda has been jailed for life. Zahid Hussain’s device was intended to cause a significant explosion and could have killed dozens of people, a judge told Winchester Crown Court. If detonated in a crowded area it would have been potentially fatal to those within metres of it and would have potentially caused serious injury among those up to 10 metres away, Mr Justice Sweeney said. Hussain’s pressure cooker device was would not have worked but the jury heard he was strongly committed to launching a deadly attack, packing the bomb with 1.6kg of shrapnel. UK prepares for war with North Korea

North Korea is being closely watched amid fears it could launch another long-range missile test on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the founding of its ruling party. Bellicose rhetoric from Donald Trump has heightened tensions in the region in recent months, prompting British officials to draw up military plans for a response to a break out of hostilities, it was reported. Among the plans disclosed by the Daily Mail is the deployment of the Navy's newest aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, before it has undergone flight trials. We have plenty of ships to send… the Type-45 destroyers, the Type-23 frigates. Britain’s new aircraft carrier could be pressed into service early if things turn south, a senior Whitehall source told the newspaper. HMS Queen Elizabeth, which arr...

Boris Johnson fed up with media stories about Tory conference scandal

The Foreign Secretary reacted to articles in the Daily Telegraph and The Sun claiming Mr Johnson was calling for Chancellor Philip Hammond to be sacked and would refuse to leave his post if he was demoted by Theresa May. In a WhatsApp message to Conservative MPs, he wrote: "I am frankly fed up to the back teeth with all this. Heseltine: I would put Boris in Mongolia I do not know who these people are. I do not know if they are really my friends and allies or if they represent some sinister band of imposters. I heartily disagree with the sense, tone and spirit of what they are quoted as saying. Whoever they are they do not speak for me. The Prime Minister has come under pressure to sack both Mr Johnson and Mr Hammond as she tries to reassert her authority over the Tory part...

Theresa May will tell MPs to put the ball is in the EU’s court

The Prime Minister will tell MPs that the ball is in the EU's court when she updates them on the progress of Brexit negotiations. Theresa May will call for the European Union to be flexible in its approach and will promise the UK can get a deal that will prove the anti-Brexit "doomsayers" wrong. It comes as the fifth round of Brexit talks between UK and EU negotiators are due to start today. Mrs May will say: "By approaching these negotiations in a constructive way - in a spirit of friendship and co-operation and with our sights firmly set on the future - I believe we can prove the doomsayers wrong. I believe we can seize the opportunities of this defining moment in the history of our nation. A new, deep and special partnership between a sovereign United Kingdom and a stro...
