Why are so many Russian diplomats dying

Russian ambassador Migayas Shirinskiy has become the eighth Kremlin diplomat to die since the election of Donald Trump in November 2016, sparking conspiracy theories. Shirinsky, ambassador to Sudan, was swimming in the pool of his residence in Khartoum last Wednesday when he seemed to suffer a heart attack. While there is no evidence to suggest his demise was suspicious, he is just the latest in a string of Russian emissaries to die unexpectedly. Foul play has been ruled out in some cases, but questions linger in others. That's either because the facts have changed over time, details are hard to come by, or the deaths are still under investigation, says CNN. A darker theory links the deaths to the claims of Russian state interference in the 2016 US election and the electio...

Danger from Sussex gas cloud over

A gas cloud that affected hundreds of people along the East Sussex coast appears to have dissipated, police say. Residents were being urged to keep their windows and doors closed after the unknown haze emerged, but this advice has now been withdrawn. Holidaymakers were left with streaming eyes, sore throats and nausea - with about 150 people seeking treatment at Eastbourne District General Hospital. Police are now trying to determine what type of gas caused the irritation, as well as the source of the chemical haze. It is believed that the gas had been swept in from the sea by onshore breezes - but weather models suggest that an onshore source in northern France is "very unlikely". Public Health England is urging anyone who is still suffering the effects of irritation to i...

Houston crippled by catastrophic flood, evacuations ordered

Tropical Storm Harvey was set to dump more rain on Houston on Monday, worsening flooding that has paralyzed the country's fourth biggest city, forced thousands to flee surrounding counties and swollen rivers to levels not seen in centuries. Harvey, the most powerful hurricane to hit Texas in more than 50 years, first hit land late on Friday and has killed at least two people. It has since stayed around Texas' Gulf of Mexico Coast where it is forecast to remain for several more days, drenching parts with a year's worth of rain in the span of a week. Schools, airports and office buildings in Houston, home to about 2.3 million people, were ordered shut on Monday as scores of roads turned into rivers and chest-high water filled neighborhoods in the low-lying city. Torrential r...

White Christian girl put into foster care with non English speaking Muslim family

A white Christian girl was reportedly put into the care of a non English speaking Muslim foster family where the mother wears a niqab. The child, aged five, who speaks English as her first language, has been looked after by two different Muslim households in the past six months. She was allegedly encouraged to learn Arabic in one household and was begging not to go back there because they don't speak English, according to a confidential report from the local authority seen by the Times newspaper. She is said to have told her mother since the placement in Tower Hamlets, London, that Christmas is stupid and European women are alcoholic. The girl was reportedly told to remove her Christian cross necklace and was not allowed to eat carbonara because it contained bacon. In one ...

12 Things That Happen to Your Body When You Eat Eggs

If you do want to play chicken with infections, viruses and diseases, add an egg or two to your diet daily. Just one large egg contains almost a quarter (22%) of your RDA of selenium, a nutrient that helps support your immune system and regulate thyroid hormones. Kids should eat eggs, especially. If children and adolescents don’t get enough selenium, they could develop Keshan disease and Kashin-Beck disease, two conditions that can affect the heart, bones and joints. 1. Trump’s decision to pardon Joe Arpaio could be a crucial piece of evidence in the Russia investigation

The Washington Post's report on Saturday that President Donald Trump asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions about dropping the case against former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio offers a critical window into Trump's thinking. Trump's alleged conversation with Sessions and subsequent decision to pardon Arpaio could shed new light on Trump's motives when he spoke to former FBI director James Comey about ending the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn one day after Flynn resigned. Arpaio, an early and enthusiastic Trump surrogate, was convicted of criminal contempt in July for violating a court order to stop racially profiling Latinos. When Trump allegedly asked Sessions this past spring whether it would be possible to drop the federal criminal investig...

Labour in dramatic policy shift over Brexit

In a dramatic policy shift, Labour is pledging to continue UK membership of the EU single market and the customs union during a transitional period following Brexit in March 2019. The party's shadow Brexit secretary, Sir Keir Starmer, has also not ruled out negotiating the possibility of a new single market and customs arrangement on a permanent basis. Effectively, a Labour government would try to keep Britain inside an economic union while leaving the political union with the European Union. At the general election, Labour promised to seek to retain the benefits of the single market and customs union as part of a jobs-first Brexit. But party leader Jeremy Corbyn has so far stopped short of committing to continued membership beyond the date of Brexit. However, writing in T...

British PM decided to quit

Theresa May has pencilled in Friday, August 30, 2019 as the day she will quit as Prime Minister. That gives her exactly two years to see Britain through Brexit before handing over to her successor. Mrs May is on a charm offensive with her MPs entertaining small groups of 15 plus partners to a day out at her Chequers country retreat. Each MP is emailed personal invitations until they accept. She greets each guest in person at the door, offering them prosecco, canapés and homemade chocolates with husband Philip to persuade them to give her the time to complete the withdrawal from the EU. One Tory MP who was a guest said: “It’s clear she won’t lead us into another election and will be gone by September 2019. She invited MPs to Chequers to ensure there isn’t a -leadership cont...

EU nationals applying for UK citizenship jumps by 80% after Brexit

The number of EU nationals applying for British citizenship has nearly doubled in the wake of the Brexit vote, official statistics reveal. They show the figure jumped by 80% as thousands originally from other countries in the bloc sought naturalisation. There were 28,502 applications for citizenship from EU nationals in the year ending in June 2017 up from 15,871 in the previous 12 months. The rise is in contrast to a general downward trend in the overall numbers seeking citizenship, with total applications falling by 8% to 135,912. Jonathan Portes, professor of economics and public policy at King’s College London, said: Historically immigrants from outside the EU have been much more likely than EU migrants to apply for UK citizenship for example the vast majority of long ...
