The 21-year-old said her extended family, who are all of Ethiopian descent, had spent a year planning the trip to the UK but it was ruined when three of her cousins were turned away at the boarding gate after being told UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) would not allow them into the country. Yazidi girl escaped from from Isis after six months and reveals she was raped every day

A Yazidi girl who escaped from the Islamic State (Isis) has told of how she was raped every day for six months by her captor. Ekhlas, who was 14 when she imprisoned, tried to escape jihadis in northern Iraq by climbing Mount Sinjar but was caught and held as a sex slave. In 2014, Isis began to target the Yazidis, an ethnic Kurdish group, which Isis believes are devil worshippers. At the time it was reported that as many as 40,000 people had taken refuge on the mountain, as Isis fighters killed men and captured women and children in the region. Everyday for six months he raped me. I tried to kill myself, Ekhlas told the BBC. He picked me out of 150 girls by drawing lots. He was so ugly, like a beast, with his long hair. He smelt so bad. Must preparing wills before parents die

More than anyone else, parents and grandparents should avoid the pitfalls of not preparing a will. It’s a shocking statistic, but around 27 million adults in the UK have failed to prepare a will*. This can have serious consequences, especially if you’re a parent. Dying without a will means the law will simply run its course, and often again your wishes. It’s a huge risk that can leave you powerless over your assets. Why A Professional Will Is Essential: The technical term for passing away with no valid will is ‘dying intestate’. If this happens your money, possessions and property will be divided up according to the law, and your loved ones could stand to inherit nothing. For instance, if you are unmarried and die ‘intestate’, your partner would by law receive nothing. If ...

The Brain Tumour Charity When Rosie Bell noticed her son had started to bump into things and tumble, she put it down to him inheriting the family brand of clumsiness. And as three-year-old Daniel started to become morose and tired, his family explained his mood as a growth spurt or virus. But then when her young son started to be repeatedly sick, Rosie remembered a friend's Facebook post about the warning signs of a brain tumour. Ignoring her concerns that she would be seen as a hypochondriac mum, she took Daniel to the doctor who dismissed his symptoms as hayfever and prescribed him antihistamines. However in the days that followed little Daniel continued to be sick and he was eventually referred to a paediatrician. It was then that Rosie, who was seven months pregna...

Britain is fast becoming the sick man of Europe: experts debate Brexit data

David Blanchflower: Professor of economics at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, and member of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee from June 2006 to May 2009 I keep waiting for the good news that the Brexiters told us would come once the vote to leave the EU was in. The vote was an unexpected shock to the markets that was always going to take a while to work its way into the main economic data. A year on, Britain is the slowest-growing country in both the G7 and the EU28. In the first quarter of 2017, the UK grew 0.2%, whereas the eurozone grew by 0.6%. As a result of the Brexit vote and the economic uncertainty it unleashed, Britain is fast becoming the sick man of Europe. That seems unlikely to change soon. Once again this month, there is only thin economic gruel in the data. ...

I never promised to write off student debt while election time: Jeremy Corbyn

has insisted he did not promise to write off student debt as he campaigned for the youth vote in the general election. The Labour leader has faced claims he used students as election fodder by indicating he would wipe out the sums they owed for their education. During the run-up to the June 8 vote, Mr Corbyn said he wanted to look at ways to reduce, ameliorate, lengthen the period of paying it off or some other means of reducing that debt burden. In the interview with NME, he added: And I don’t see why those that had the historical misfortune to be at university during the £9,000 period should be burdened excessively compared to those that went before or those that come after. I will deal with it. Mr Corbyn said the comments had not been a commitment to erase student debt ...
