A masked knifeman attack to driver through car window in east London

A man suffered a terrifying attack when his car window was smashed by a knifeman in Cuba Street. The bizarre assault took place on Wednesday at 9pm in the Isle of Dogs. The driver and his passenger, both 20-year-old men, were sat in their parked car next to a building site and the Bright Horizons Heron Quays day nursery when three men on bikes rode up. One smashed the car window and lunged through it wielding a large knife, which can clearly been seen in the video above. The masked thug tried to stab the passenger, and cut his hand and arm. The other occupant scratched his arm as he fled the car. Their injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing. Police have made no arrests, and enquiries continue.

Bomb threats sent to Mosques in East London

Bomb threat letters received by mosques in east London are being investigated by counter-terror police. Handwritten notes have been received by the Forest Gate mosque, as well as the Coventry Cross mosque in Bromley-by-Bow and Shacklewell Lane mosque in Dalston. Pictures of the letters, which have been posted online by campaign group Documenting Opperssion Against Muslims (DOAM), show similar handwriting and suggest they have been written by the same person. Those sent to the Coventry Cross and Shacklewell Lane mosques state that the writer will be visiting or coming to your mosque, while the Forest Gate letter is more explicit, saying an explosive device would be left there. A spokeswoman for the north east counter terrorism unit confirmed that the police received a numbe...

A Statement from The Borough Commander of Tower Hamlets Police regarding Acid attacks

I am aware of the increased levels of fear within our community in relation to reporting of recent acid based crimes in Tower Hamlets and across London.. Police are investigating crimes that have occurred recently across East London involving the use of corrosive substances during the commission of the offence. At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that these incidents are linked. One of the offences, which took place in Newham on 21 June, is being treated as a hate crime and strenuous efforts continue to locate and arrest the suspect. This is only the second report in the last 12 months within the whole of London of such an incident having a hate crime link. In 2016 there were 455 offences recorded where a corrosive/acid substance was used across London, this year to date there have ...

The photo-sharing app is big, big business these days, especially when it comes to promoting products, celebrities, and the products that celebrities are using. All of which brings us to Cristiano Ronaldo, of course. Now if you were wondering why Ronaldo so often looks like that on his Instagram profile - five of his last six posts are with his top off - then it is usually for commercial reasons. And a new study has shown that the Real Madrid star - who has 106 million followers - earns a staggering £308,000 per sponsored post, placing him third in the "Instagram rich list" as the top-earning male in the world, just ahead of reality star Kylie Jenner (he's paid the sam...

Theresa May warns Britain could become next Greece

Prime Minister Theresa May today refused to bend to calls to lift the cap on public sector pay as she warned that any reversal of her government's austerity agenda would risk Britain turning into Greece. Her cabinet has this week been embroiled in a public argument about whether the freeze to public sector pay rises should be axed following the Conservative Party's failure to win a majority in last months' election. Senior ministers including Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Defence Secretary Michael Fallon have publicly urged May to consider scrapping the cap, while Chancellor Philip Hammond has taken the opposing view, saying the government must hold its nerve on austerity. Asked about the cap, May claimed that Britain would end up in an economic crisis similar to tha...

Devon town becomes magnet for begging tourists earning up to £35k a year

A mayor has complained that her prosperous Devon town has become a magnet for begging tourists who police claim could be earning up to £35,000 a year. Rosie Adams, the mayor of Totnes, said that people are coming from other places to beg. I hate to say it but we have begging tourists, she said. They are coming in from other places and actually spoiling it for our local people. There is no need in Totnes for anyone to go hungry. They should not feel in any way scared. It's obviously an ideal place for beggars to come to. Police have confirmed that aggressive beggars have been harassing passersby in the town. They said that beggars in the town raise up to £100 a day - the equivalent of up to £35,000 a year. The local police said in a statement: Historically we have taken a f...

Suspects in the shooting down of the MH-17 passenger jet will be prosecuted in a Dutch court, the country's foreign ministry has announced. The ministry said international cooperation would continue during the prosecution. Nearly 300 people died when MH-17 was downed in 2014. Foreign Minister Bert Koenders said in a statement on Wednesday that the decision had been made by the countries jointly investigating the crash Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, Ukraine and the Netherlands. The decision follows attempts, blocked by Russia in 2015, to set up an international court over the incident, which killed all 298 people aboard the Malaysia Airlines flight. Victims came from 17 countries, and included 196 Dutch. The Dutch Safety Board, which investigated the incident, concluded in O...
