    A fraudster who pretended her husband was killed in the Grenfell Tower fire in order to claim thousands of pounds worth of handouts has been jailed. Joyce Msokeri, 47, posed as a resident of the west London tower and said she had been left a widow after losing her husband in the fire on June 14. In the wake of the tragedy she accepted £19,000 worth of money, accommodation and other donations that was made available to victims. On Friday she was found guilty of fraud at the Old Bailey and jailed for four-and-a-half years. Upon sentencing Msokeri, Judge Michael Grieve QC described her actions as callous and contemptible, indeed disgusting Msokeri claimed she had moved into Grenfell Tower in February 2017 to live with her husband – who she said had died in the fire ...

The next round of applications for Tower Hamlets,' multi-award winning No Place for Hate Champions training has been announced by the council. The free training is open to anyone who lives or works in the borough. It aims to give participants the skills to identify and tackle hate crime, and to deliver community activities where they can make a difference, share their learning and celebrate diversity. The new champions will add to 84 others who have already used the training to bring thousands of people together in community projects. More adult social care users are being empowered to exercise control over their health and wellbeing; increasing numbers of carers are receiving support; and more people are being helped to gain independence after a period of ill health. These are some of the highlights from this year's Local Account - the annual report of adult social care in Tower Hamlets.  The Mayor in Cabinet approved the report on Tuesday March 20. ower Hamlets council's Sustainable Development Team took top prize at the Local Government Chronicles (LGC) Awards 2018, winning the Environmental Services Category for the Tower Hamlets Carbon Fund. The fund is a planning obligations payment for offsetting carbon emissions from new build developments and it allows the council to comply with regulation change, reduce carbon emissions, generate revenue, eradicate fuel poverty, prioritise the local community and lead by example.
