Burglars handed themselves in after feeling guilty when wrong person was blamed

Blackpool Magistrates Court (Picture: [copyright]) Two British burglars have handed themselves in after they felt guilty when someone else was wrongly blamed for their crimes. Blackpool Magistrates Court has heard that Michael Dehal, 28, and Stephen Monaghan, 50, stole £60,000 worth of hair and beauty products from a salon in Poulton. The two men reportedly told the court that they were never caught and thought that they had managed to get away with committing the offences. However, they reportedly said that when they found that someone else had been blamed for the theft, they felt pangs of remorse and handed themselves in to clear the wrongly accused person’s name. Kevin Walker, defending, said: “The defendants went to the police voluntarily and confessed, after hearing s...

Reporter Gets Stabbed While Testing Stab Proof Vest

Eitam Lachover was filming a segment about a company designing the vests when he decided to be part of the demonstration. The Channel 1 reporter had agreed to test the hardware, to prove the importance of the gear, but ended up injured. In a statement to Israeli paper The Globes, the company said Lachover suffered the injury only because he “moved” during the take. “The knife did not penetrate the vest. The reporter moved during the demonstration, and the stabber missed the vest. The reporter was stabbed slightly above the vest,” the company said. Lachover only suffered a light injury to his upper back after the accident and the manufacturers are still are confident the item is safe. He later said on Twitter that he got stitches and was discharged from the hospital. An ear...

Arctic Blast To Herald Return Of Winter Weather

Widespread Frost As The UK Braces Itself For Severe Cold Weather There is a big change on the way for Britain's weather, which has seen exceptionally mild conditions recently. Next week, a north to north-westerly flow will develop taking Arctic air across the UK, making it feel much colder than recently and more like winter. From next Wednesday, daytime temperatures will fall to below the seasonal average, ranging from freezing in parts of the north to 5°C in the south. Overnight frosts can be expected, too, with the risk of ice and freezing fog. The change in temperature will also bring much drier conditions, with high pressure close to the UK. That will be welcome news to flood-hit communities, after December 2015 became the wettest ever month since records began in 1910...

Britain condemns North Korea hydrogen bomb test claim

A hydrogen bomb test which North Korea claimed it has conducted is a "provocation" and a "grave breach" of UN Security Council resolutions, Philip Hammond said. The Foreign Secretary said he condemns without reservation the move, which the country announced in a state broadcast. An announcer described the test, the first since 2013, as a "perfect success". Mr Hammond, who is currently on an official visit to China, tweeted: "If North Korean H-bomb test reports are true, it is a grave breach of UNSC resolutions & a provocation which I condemn without reservation." The news of the "miniaturised" hydrogen bomb test was unexpected, as no mention has been made in leader Kim Jong Un's New Year speech. The US Geological Survey measured an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 - ...

Seven million foreigners living in Britain as immigration rises by a fifth

The number of foreigners living in Britain has passed seven million for the first time after net immigration rose by a fifth. There was a 21 per cent increase in the net flow of migrants to the UK while the number of those leaving hit a six-year low. Residents born overseas account for one in eight people after hitting 7,040,000 last year, according to the Office for National Statistics. Some 239,000 more people moved here during 2010 than left, the fourth highest level on record, and a record one in four births were to foreign-born mothers. It is a major blow to David Cameron’s pledge to cut net immigration to the “tens of thousands” by 2015. But Damian Green, the immigration minister, blamed Labour’s “addiction” to immigration. Other figures yesterday showed that a recor...

December smashes rain and temperature records

Storms including Frank, Eva and Desmond have contributed to make one of the wettest Decembers on record, while temperatures have risen to smash previous highs for the time of year. Early provisional statistics from the Met Office suggest the UK mean temperature between 1 and 29 December was a record-breaking 8 °C which is 4.1 °C above the long-term average, beating the previous record of 6.9 °C, which was reached in 1934. This is the highest anomaly above a long-term average temperature for any month since 1910 - temperatures were closer to what we might normally experience during April or May, the Met Office said. On top of that, it has been the wettest December on record for Scotland (333.1 mm), and Wales (321 mm), while it is currently Northern Ireland's fourth wettest ...

Mr Danczuk, who is 49, sent the messages to 17 year old Sophena Houlihan after she asked him for a job, according to a report in The Sun newspaper. Mr Danczuk has been an outspoken critic of the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn in recent months. During the party’s leadership contest he said MPs would be plotting to oust Mr Corbyn “from day one” if he became leader. A spokesperson for the Labour party said: "The General Secretary of the Labour Party has today suspended Simon Danczuk's membership of the Party, pending an investigation into allegations published in the media today.
