Michelle Obama takes swipe at Donald Trump rare

Donald Trump has taken a rare swipe at Michelle Obama, accusing her of criticising his rival Hillary Clinton. The presidential candidate has avoided directly hitting out at the first lady for much of the race. But at a campaign rally in North Carolina, Mr Trump had a change of heart. He accused Mrs Obama of attacking his rival during the 2008 primaries. He said she was alluding to Mrs Clinton when she said that if you "can't run your own house," you can't run the White House. Although the first lady did make that comment, the White House has vehemently denied that it was a reference to the Clintons, instead insisting it was about their own attempts to balance family and politics. Mr Trump also complained that "all she (Michelle Obama) wants to do is campaign". Mrs Obama ha...

UK Border plans to withdraw from the fight says PM Theresa May

Theresa May's office has strongly rejected the suggestion from French presidential candidate Alain Juppé that the border for migrants could be moved from Calais to the southeast coast of England. Juppé, the current favourite to succeed current presiden François Hollande, said he wanted a total revision of the Le Touquet treaty, the bilateral agreement which means border checks take place on the French side of the channel. This would involve the border being pushed back to Kent on the southeast coast of England, meaning migrants traveling across Europe could cross the channel from France to the UK with much more ease. "We can’t tolerate what is going on in Calais, the image is disastrous for our country and there are also extremely serious economic and security consequences...

Meanwhile, advancing Iraqi forces entered the town of Qaraqosh, 32km (20 miles) south of Mosul, the IS capital. Qaraqosh, Iraq's largest Christian town before the war, is said to be largely empty but IS has laid landmines on the approaches to Mosul. UK will remain at centre of EU decision making until Brexit

Theresa May has angered European leaders by telling her first EU summit that she expects Britain to be at the centre of European decision-making until Brexit takes place. In a brief speech at the end of an EU dinner in Brussels, the prime minister said Britain wanted to continue to play a central role in meetings and decisions until it leaves the EU. The speech angered fellow leaders, according to Manfred Weber, leader of the Christian Democrats in the European parliament. That is really creating a lot of anger about the behaviour of the British government.

Merkel and Hollande warn May that UK faces rough ride with hard Brexit

If you want to leave please do so, but don’t decide for the European Union. He added: It is not about institutions in Brussels, it’s about whether the British prime minister in the next years is still at the table, and the majority decided to not sit anymore on the centre of the European debate, and that is not good. The summit continues on Friday, with a meeting set to take place in the afternoon between May and the president of the European commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. On Thursday, May was given a stark warning from both Angela Merkel and François Hollande that Britain faces a rough and hard negotiation as she pursues a tough approach to Brexit negotiations including a clampdown on immigration.
