Mo Farah humiliated in flight when back home from Rio

Delta Airlines sent Mo Farah to the back of the queue as he waited to board his flight home from Rio, refusing to acknowledge he had a business-class ticket, his wife Tania claims. In an interview the Olympic champion's spouse alleged that her husband was treated like a "piece of s***" as the only black person waiting to board his flight home last month. She said: "This woman basically humiliated him, until people came forward and said: ‘That’s Mo Farah, the Olympic champion.' "She was mortified afterwards, but had basically yelled at him like he was a piece of s*** to get back into line. "He was the only black person [in the queue] and hadn’t done anything to warrant it. I just knew she had a problem with him." Witnesses later claimed Mrs Farah swore at the airline worker...

Hillary Clinton fallen down after feeling dizzy at the 9/11 memorial programme

In a statement, Clinton's doctor said the former secretary of state had become overheated and dehydrated at the 9 11 memorial in lower Manhattan. An ill Hillary Clinton abruptly left a 9/11 anniversary ceremony Sunday and needed to be held up by three people before she appeared to stumble off a curb and was helped into a van. Several hours later, her campaign revealed she had been diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and advised to rest. Less than two months from Election Day, it was an unwanted visual for Clinton as she tries to project the strength and vigor needed for one of the world’s most demanding jobs. Republican rival Donald Trump has spent months questioning Clinton’s health, saying she lacks the stamina to be president. In a statement, Clinton’s doctor said the fo...

Flashback 9/11: Al Qaeda is back more powerful than ever

With headline-hunting brutality, Islamic State may have captured global attention but it’s al-Qaeda that’s quietly rebuilding its infrastructure, adding to its ranks from Afghanistan to Libya The day that would change the world was drawing inexorably closer. And as it did, explosives expert Muhammad Salah al-Din al-Zaidan sent furious messages from his home in Kabul’s Kart-i Parwan to Osama Bin Laden, calling the 9/11 plot a rash act that would endanger al-Qaeda’s infrastructure inside Afghanistan, and choke Islamist groups worldwide. The head of al-Qaeda’s shari’a committee, Mahfouz Ould al-Walid, joined this dissent. The US would level the Taliban’s Emirate, and the loss of the world’s one Islamic state would cripple jihadist movements everywhere, he argued. 9/11 proved ...

Man running one of the biggest Nordic banks issues Brexit warning

The man running the Nordic region’s biggest bank says the European Union needs to brace itself for the possibility that it will take up to half a decade before Britain can extract itself from the bloc. Speaking in an interview with Finnish broadcaster YLE TV1 on Saturday, Nordea Bank AB Chief Executive Officer Casper von Koskull said the Brexit process that has rocked the EU is still plagued by “a lot of uncertainties.” “I think this came as a bit of a surprise for the Brits themselves,” von Koskull said. “Now it may well be that this will be a process that lasts three, four or five years.” Because there’s still no clear roadmap for how to proceed, “it may be that the Brexit process will not be started until after two years,” he said. “And then it will take many years to f...

Commons committee to debate about leak of Saudi arms sales report

Andrew Tyrie, the Liaison Committee’s Tory chairman, believes the leak is among the most serious and disruptive Westminster has seen. The Independent has learnt that a Commons committee is poised to debate taking the unprecedented step and that its chairman believes a demand for a probe must be taken seriously. The move would be a backlash against the BBC’s Newsnight being handed extensive details about a forthcoming report into whether weapons sales to the Saudis should be banned. 9/11 anniversary: How the world changed in 15 years

The attacks that were claimed by the Islamic radical organisation Al-Qaeda would change the global order of things forever. It was just another regular working day in New York City, when an American Airlines Boeing 767 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Centre, soon followed by a United Airlines flight crashing into the south tower. The devastation was not just limited to New York. A third plane flew into a wing of the Pentagon, right outside Washington DC, while another crashed at a field in Pennsylvania. America was witnessing its most dreadful attack. The death of more than 3000 people had left the country scarred for years to come. September 11, 2001 was a defining moment, not just for America but for the world at large. The attacks that were claimed by th...
