    Social media companies like Facebook and YouTube must take responsibility for the material they host and be punished if they do not remove racist, extremist or child sex abuse content, a parliamentary committee will recommend. There will be a push for a change in the law to make sure that social media companies are deemed publishers, rather than platforms, and so would be liable for any illegal content that is available on them. Theresa May's independent ethics watchdog committee will call for legislation to ensure websites that did not comply face punishment, the Times reported.     Theresa May has insisted Britain's offer of a Brexit fee around £40bn will be off the table if there is no final deal on a future UK partnership with the EU.     The UK has shivered through the coldest night of the year so far, with temperatures plunging as low as -13C. Large swathes of the country saw temperatures fall below freezing, and the Met Office says the village of Shawbury in Shropshire was coldest of all. Severe weather warnings for snow and ice are in place until 11am on Tuesday across much of the UK as forecasters warned the icy conditions could bring further travel disruption. Saudi Arabia is reportedly planning to hike petrol prices by 80%

    Saudi Arabia plans to raise petrol and jet fuel prices in January in an effort to reduce energy subsidies and bolster state finances, according to a report by Bloomberg. Petrol prices are set to jump by about 80% while jet fuel prices will be raised to international levels, a person with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg. Other fuel types and electricity tariffs are also expected to rise in price over the coming years. Fuel prices, excluding jet fuel, are not expected to rise to international levels until 2023 at the earliest. Under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's plans to reform the economy, fuel subsidies are eventually to be totally eliminated.     Police believe they have exposed a new grooming gang in London as officers warn widespread abuse is taking place across the country. Four girls between the age of 13 and 15 have reported being raped by a group based around a McDonald’s in Stratford, triggering a crackdown that has so far identified at least 30 potential victims.
