Jubo Dal leader ‘masterminded’ RU teacher killing: Rab
8 others, including Jamaat activists, held in Rajshahi, Gazipur, Bogra
Elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today claimed to have arrested six including a former Jubo Dal leader of Rajshahi who allegedly masterminded the murder of Rajshahi University teacher Shafiul Islam.
Four of the six were arrested form different areas in Rajshahi and Gazipur, according to Rab.
The alleged mastermind, Ariful Islam Manik, was a former organising secretary Katakhali municipality unit of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the you wing of BNP, Maksudul Alam deputy director of Rab media wing told The Daily Star Online.
Further detail in this regard was expected to be made public at a press briefing at Rab Dhaka’s Uttara headquarters around 3:30pm, the official added.
3 INCLUDING JAMAAT ACTIVISTS ARRESTED FROM BOGRA
Rajshahi police arrested three more people, including two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir, from Bogra today.
The two included one individual who claimed responsibility of Shafiul murder on Facebook, our Rajshahi correspondent reports quoting AKM Nahidul Islam, deputy commissioner Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).
The other is a blacksmith who was traced from the machete left behind in the crime scene, the official added.
However, their names and further details were not available immediately.
Rajshahi University sociology department teacher Shafiul Islam was brutally hacked to his death in Choddopai area on November 15.
