Ban imposed on pillion passengers on motorbikes


 

 

The government on Thursday banned motorcyclists from carrying passengers until further notice following arson by drive-by miscreants amid political turmoil in the country

The order from Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges came on Thursday  afternoon, four days after two Eden College girls were burned in a drive-by arson attack near Jatiya Sangsad in the capital.

According to the circular, the ban has been imposed under section 88 of the Motorcycle Act, 1983, and it would remain effective until further notice. The order will take effect immediately.”

The order was issued to ensure security of the people in view of motorcycles being used to create violence and sabotage the country, the order read.
