Arrest Made After Man Shot Dead In Street

    A man has been shot dead in broad daylight in a busy London street. The victim, who was found with gunshot wounds next to a butchers in Chatsworth Road, Hackney, shortly after 1pm, was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation has been launched by police into the fatal shooting and a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out. The dead man's next of kin have yet to be informed. Meanwhile, the gunman remains at large and is being hunted by police. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers, specialist firearms officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the scene and found a man with injuries consistent with being shot. Mosque Fire in South London Tackled By Eight Fire Engines

  A fire at a mosque in south London is being tackled by 10 fire engines, amid reports most of it is burning. The ground and first floors of the mosque in Morden, said to be one of the largest in western Europe, are affected by the fire. The London Fire Brigade said it was called at 12.06pm and it had 70 firefighters at the scene. It added the cause of the fire was not yet known. The mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 people and cost millions to build. It opened in 2003.One person has been taken to hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation. Crews from New Malden, Wandsworth, Tooting, Sutton, Mitcham and Norbury fire stations are at the scene. Police closed London Road, the road the mosque is on and urged people to avoid the area.
