Indian restaurant writes white ppl on customer’s receipt after he orders mild curry

An Indian restaurant in west London has apologised to a customer for marking his receipt with the words “white ppl” after he requested a mild curry. Valentine Restaurant in Southall said the mix-up was a misunderstanding rather than a comment on the race of the customer, because “ppl” was its shorthand for “milk”. The note, added underneath the order of a venison curry, read ***VERY MILD, WHITE PPL***. Restaurant owner Ruby Kandasamy said that it was a reminder for the kitchen to use “a white sauce made from milk, single cream, coconut milk and spices we add to our dishes when a curry is requested mild”. But the customer, 44-year-old Stuart Lynn, said he was offended by the note and that he wouldn’t be using the restaurant again. @arreyaar to be fair ppl made me think of p...

First self injectable contraceptive for women available for use in UK

The long-acting reversible contraceptive, Sayana Press, has received a licence which means women can inject themselves at home instead of having to go to their GP surgery or clinic. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has extended the label for the product. Each jab provides contraception for at least 13 weeks. Women will need to see a healthcare professional for training but then can administer Sayana at home, although they will still be called for yearly check-ups. Seema Patel, medical director of global established pharma UK at Pfizer, said: "When it comes to contraception, women may require different options that suit them at different times in their lives. "We appreciate that many women are very busy and that visiting their healthcare profes...

Man’s decomposing body found ‘tied to a supermarket trolley’ in London canal

Detectives at Scotland Yard launched a murder investigation after the discovery was made on Wednesday morning and have not yet formally identified the victim. The man’s body was spotted in the water by a member of the public near the entrance to the Islington Tunnel, by a houseboat-lined towpath popular with local residents, dog walkers and joggers. Police were last night searching the banks as divers combed the bed of the canal for evidence. A houseboat owner told the Evening Standardofficers asked him whether he had heard a shopping trolley pass by along the towpath. “I’d gone to sleep at 11pm after being at the pub to watch the rugby and woke with the police banging on my window, he added. “That’s when I found out the body had been found in a trolley. I think he was tie...
