The Jatiya Sangsad is going into its third and budget session today. Earlier, President Md. Abdul Hamid summoned the third session of the 11th Parliament exercising the power bestowed upon him as per Article 72 (1) of the constitution. Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal will place the national budget for 2019-20 fiscal in the House on June 13.
Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen has said, Rohingya crisis will be a major issue for discussion during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to China next month. The Minister said this to the media at his ministry yesterday. China is sincere to help Bangladesh in tackling the crisis and has always advised us to resolve the problem through bilateral discussion with Myanmar, the Minister added.
The 11th anniversary of release of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from prison will be observed today. On this day in 2008, Sheikh Hasina was released from the special sub-jail set up on the premises of the Jatiya Sangsad Building after remaining captive there for nearly 11 months. The Awami League President was arrested from her Sudha Sadan residence at Dhanmondi on July 16, 2007 during the military-backed caretaker government. Bangladesh Awami League and its associate organizations have taken various programmes to mark the day.
Bangladesh Awami League has finalised its candidates in the Chairman posts for the Union Parishad Elections in 10 UPs in Patuakhali Sadar, Mymensingh Sadar and Kamalnagar upazilas. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said, Road Transport Act will be brought into effect after holding discussions with leaders of transport workers. Ride sharing Policy will be approved within this month to check accident, the Minister added. Obaidul Quader said this while exchanging views with journalists at his ministry in Dhaka yesterday. The Minister referring to Nusrat Murder Case in Feni said, the accused OC will be arrested within quickest possible time and actions will be taken against him.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has said, the government has formulated Digital Security Act only to tackle cyber crimes, not to curb the freedom of speech or the freedom of press. The Minister said this to the newsmen after a meeting with European Union Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore at his Gulshan residence in Dhaka yesterday.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has left Dhaka for China on an invitation of Yunnan Province Governor Ruan Chengfa to join the second South Asia Cooperation Forum to be held on June 11 – 12. The Minister is also scheduled to attend the inaugural ceremony of the South and Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair due to be held in Kunming on June 12.
The UAE has raised US$ 18 million fund to support the livelihood of Rohingya people sheltered in Bangladesh. Emirates Red Crescent Authority has collected the fund in a weeklong nationwide campaign in May.
Bangladesh’s export earnings from RMG sector earned US$31.73 billion in the first 11 months of the fiscal (July to May), up 12.82 per cent from the corresponding period of the last fiscal, when it was US $28.12 billion.
