What’s the craic lads: Read this Irishman’s brilliant Facebook letter to ISIS

An Irishman has penned a hilarious 'open letter' to ISIS following a spate of recent terror attacks in Paris, Egypt and Lebanon. 'Finchie Cova' wrote an 800+ word missive to the terrorists yesterday, asking them how they were and noting the chilling video they sent out this week branding Ireland as 'Europe's weakest link'. He tells them we're only here for the craic and warns them not to blow up famous chipper Leo Burdocks - but attacking Leitrim is fine. Plus, hitting pubs is well out of the question. He concludes by giving Da'esh 10 top tips before signing off. Posted on Thursday at 1.28pm, it has since been shared over 12,000 times and was shared 10,000 times in less than 24 hours. The letter, in full, reads: So after the past few weeks of s***e that's been floating aro...

UK growth hit by biggest drag from net trade on record

Trade continues to drag on UK growth as consumer spending drives Britain's recovery. Britain's recovery slowed in the third quarter as growth was dampened by the biggest drag from net trade on record, official figures showed on Friday. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the UK economy expanded by 0.5pc in the three months to September. This was unchanged from its previous estimate and follows an expansion of 0.7pc in the second quarter. The figures showed Britain's trade deficit almost doubled in the third quarter, to £14.2bn, reflecting a jump in imports, which rose by 5.5pc over the period compared with a 2.7pc fall in the second quarter. This drag from trade was enough to knock 1.5 percentage points off growth in the third quarter, the ONS said, though the de...

Travel chaos as Heathrow protesters blockade tunnel leading to airport

Five people have been arrested after anti-airport expansion activists blockaded a tunnel leading to Heathrow. The protest, held on the day Parliament is due to debate airport expansion in the UK, has left long tailbacks to terminals 1,2 and 3. Campaign group Plane Stupid, which is fighting proposals for a new third runway at Heathrow, claimed responsibility. Three members of the group parked a van bearing David Cameron's election promise "No Ifs, No Buts: No Third Runway" across both lanes of the entrance tunnel. In a press release posted on the group's website, Plane Stupid spokeswoman Cameron Kaye said: "Airport expansion would wreck the legally binding Climate Change Act, risking wiping out 55 per cent of species this century and displacing 75 million more people from t...

Tunisia declares state of emergency after deadly bus blast

Tunisia's President Beji Caid Essebsi declared a nationwide state of emergency and a curfew in the capital after a bomb attack on a presidential guard bus killed at least 12 people. A security source at the site said "most of the agents who were on the bus are dead" after the attack in Tunis, which has become a target of jihadist violence since the 2011 revolution. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, which a ministry official said also wounded 20 people when it went off on Mohamed V Avenue, just as this year's 26th Carthage Film Festival was in full swing. Essebsi, who cancelled a trip to Switzerland for Wednesday, declared a state of emergency throughout the country and a curfew in the capital. "As a result of this painful event, this great traged...

A British Muslim women Caught on Camera when encouraging to join Isis in Syria

A group of British Muslim women have been filmed urging other women and children to support and join Isis, a 12-month undercover investigation has revealed. The women, identified after their pro-Isis activity on social media, were caught on camera lecturing women against western values, declaring them anti-Islamic, urging women to join Isis in Syria and using racially abusive language to describe “filthy Jews” and Israelis. Umm Saalihah and Umm L, the names they go by on Twitter, were filmed by giving two-hour lectures in London in secret closed women-only meetings in community centres, as Channel 4 slowly gained access to them over the course of months. The women appear to have all belonged to extremist group once known as al-Muhajiroun, set up two decades ago and banned ...

One Of Downed Russian Jet’s Pilots Escaped

One of the pilots of the Russian jet that was shot down by Turkey survived and is thought to be on his way back to his base, a diplomat has said. Russia's ambassador to France said the pilot - one of two in the jet brought down on Tuesday near the border with Syria - was picked up by the Syrian army. Alexandre Orlov told Europe 1 radio: "One on board was wounded when he parachuted down and killed in a savage way on the ground by the jihadists in the area and the other managed to escape and, according to the latest information, has been picked up by the Syrian army and should be taken to the Russian airforce base." A Turkish official claimed the two pilots are still alive and the country is working to secure their release from Syrian rebels. According to a US official, the ...

Paris attacks: Belt of explosives found in litter in town south of capital

A device resembling an explosive belt has been found in the town of Montrouge south of Paris and is currently being analysed by police. The item was found in a pile of litter on a residential street near students’ accommodation on Monday afternoon, and police experts are working to establish its composition and whether it is made up of explosives. A source close to the investigation told Reuters: “It looks like a belt of explosives.” The immediate area where the belt was found was closed off while police checked the material and established what it was. There was no police confirmation yet as to whether it was an explosives belt. Security services in France and Belgium are trying to hunt down suspects and potential accomplices following a series of coordinated terrorist at...
Why I Love Winter

Why I Love Winter

I hate winter season. The mornings are the worst. Getting out of the warm bed is a challenge by itself. The harsh, icy water and the bone shattering cold air doesn't make life easier for anyone. The dense fog, which is adamant, refuses to go away till midday, creating a nuisance of traffic. As it is apparent, winter does not charm me. But there is one exception. The only reason winter is worth waiting for, in my opinion, is pitha. I hate winter season. But I love pitha. It is hard for a Bangladeshi not to. The fascination with pitha has existed among Bengalis for centuries and is now probably inscribed in our genes! Niaz Zaman in her book 'Bosha Bhat to Biriyani: The Legacy of Bangladeshi Cuisine' mentions a reference to pitha in the seventeenth century Mymensingh balla...

Paris attacks: How the influence of Saudi Arabia sowed the seeds of radicalism in Belgium

Armed police guard a street in Brussels There are many reasons why Belgium has become a hotbed of radical Islamism. Some of the answers may lie in the implanting of Saudi Salafist preachers in the country from the 1960s. Keen to secure oil contracts, Belgium’s King Baudouin made an offer to Saudi King Faisal, who had visited Brussels in 1967: Belgium would set up a mosque in the capital, and hire Gulf-trained clerics. At the time, Belgium was encouraging Moroccan and Turkish workers to come into the country as cheap labour. The deal between the two Kings would make the mosque their main place of worship. Brussels already had the perfect place. An oriental pavilion designed by Belgian architect Ernest Van Humbeek had been built in the capital’s Cinquantenaire park in 1879, ...

Turkey Shoots Down Russian Jet Near Border

A Russian jet has been shot down after allegedly violating Turkish airspace near the Syrian border. The pilot was warned 10 times before being shot down by two Turkish F16 jets, according to the country's military. An official said two planes approached the Turkish border and were warned before one of them was shot down, adding their information shows Turkish airspace was repeatedly violated. A Kremlin spokesman said it was a "very serious incident", but said it was too early to draw conclusions. The Russian defence ministry said in a statement the Sukhoi Su-24 jet did not violate Turkish airspace and added it was downed by artillery fire.
