Britain’s most profitable speed cameras have been revealed

The cameras that rack up the most fines have been revealed after motoring experts Carole Nash completed a study. It found that the most profitable camera was located on the A1/Great Ponton northbound road, in Lincolnshire. In just one day it can collect over £1,661 in fines and last year alone caught more than 6,000 motorists speeding. This totalled to a staggering £606,400 from just one location. Video provided by Sky News Cameras were installed there after a series of fatal collisions and a motorist being caught travelling at over 141mph in 2015. In second place was the M180 motorway camera west of the river Trent in Scunthorpe, which caught more than 5,853 speeders and earned around £583,500. And in third place with 5,385 people caught speeding is the camera between jun...

Corbyn misses campaign appearance amid fallout from leak of draft manifesto

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has pulled out of a planned campaign appearance as the party dealt with the fallout from the sensational leak of its draft General Election manifesto. The 43-page document, which sets out plans to nationalise key industries and reverse years of austerity, was denounced by Tories as a recipe for taxes and borrowing which would put the UK on the road to ruin. But Labour’s joint election co-ordinator Andrew Gwynne played down the significance of the leak, which he said had put the party’s transformational policies at the top of the news agenda. Stressing that the document was only a draft which could be amended by a meeting of senior party and trade union figures in London on Thursday, he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: It’s not ideal, but on t...

Tory policies will deny homes to hundreds of thousands of pensioners and disabled people, warn housing chiefs

If this is not fixed, it could be really disastrous for large numbers of older and vulnerable people. Hundreds of thousands of pensioners and disabled people will be denied the homes they badly need because of a disastrous Conservative policy, housing chiefs are warning. A shortage of sheltered and supported housing is set to mushroom because of crazy funding rules that are shutting services and crushing investment, ministers have been told. Older and disabled people as well as victims of domestic violence and ex-servicemen and women rely on the homes to live independently and to stay out of residential care, or hospital But the National Housing Federation (NFH) is alarmed that housing associations are now refusing to build them because the Government has thrown their futu...

The Queen wants William and Harry to be more like Philip

The Queen wants William and Harry to be more like Philip With the news Prince Philip is officially retiring from his royal duties, reports out of the UK claim Queen Elizabeth will be making several major changes to the structure and dynamic of the monarchy. And the first big shake-up involves the British Royal Family's star players. According to The Sun, the 91-year-old ruler is advising her grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry to stop soul-baring and opening up about their feelings, and instead take a leaf out of Prince Philip's book and embrace the Windsor's more hardened approach to formal engagements. There's no denying their mental health campaign on behalf of Heads Together has been ground-breaking. Recently the brothers, along with the Duchess of Cambridge, hav...

This is why the Royals don’t use a last name

The Royal family are a bit of an enigma, for many reasons – one being the fact that you never really hear their last name. Just like Cher, Madonna and Prince, the Royals’ surname is an afterthought. This is because, up until the early 20th century, they had no last name at all. Kings and princes were instead known by the names of the county they ruled, according to the royal family’s official website. It states: The names of dynasties tended to change when the line of succession was taken by a rival faction within the family (for example, Henry IV and the Lancastrians, Edward IV and the Yorkists, Henry VII and the Tudors), or when succession passed to a different family branch through females (for example, Henry II and the Angevins, James I and the Stuarts, George I and th...

British motorists on the continent face £640 speeding fines from today

Motorists drive by a radar part of an average speed measuring system near Englos, northern France. Hundreds of thousands of British motorists will face fines for speeding in Europe under new rules coming in on Saturday. For the first time UK drivers who get caught by speed cameras going too fast on roads in countries including France, the Netherlands and Belgium will face fines of up to £640. However a quirk of the European law will crate a "one way" system in which Europeans caught speeding in the UK cannot be pursued by British police. It comes just as millions of British families are preparing to set off on summer holidays around Europe. In just one year an estimated half a million UK motorists will face prosecution for driving offences in France alone. Under the new ru...

Queen Elizabeth II has a secret Facebook account

The Queen of England, Elizabeth II herself, is on Facebook. Seriously. No, not the official 'The British Monarchy' page which made its debut back in 2010, but a super secret one for Elizabeth herself. According to MailOnline, the Queen has a deeply private personal account, with a secret friend list. Like her mother, Elizabeth II reportedly loves chatting away on the phone. But unlike her mother, our Queen is up to speed with the latest tech, including a lightweight smartphone. She's also been said to be able to text on it. The encrypted mobile is reportedly one of the most sophisticated in the world. It's allegedly impervious to hackers. The two people she reportedly chats to the most are Princess Anne, her daughter, and John Warren, her horse-racing guru and son-in-law o...

Theresa May eating chips is even more akward than you’d imagine

It was all meant to be so straightforward. Head to Cornwall, lock the media in a large cupboard, walk around a factory, eat some chips, then stand in front of some TV cameras saying the words strong and stable leadership" over and over and over and over again. And it would have been straightforward, but for the minor setback that our Prime Minister cannot eat a chip without displaying utter contempt for everything a chip is and everything a chip stands for. theresa-may-cornwall-2.jpg In Theresa May’s defence, not everyone is so aggressively photographed in the act of chip consumption. It may be that all of us, without even realising, eat our chips while simultaneously staring at them in complete disgust. Perhaps we are all, at the moment of biting into a chip, so taken by ...

Theresa May warns Jean-Claude Juncker she will be a bloody difficult woman in Brexit negotiations

Theresa May has warned Jean-Claude Juncker that she will prove to be a bloody difficult woman during Brexit negotiations after he accused her of being deluded. The Prime Minister said that the process will be tough as she said that voters have to choose whether she or Jeremy Corbyn will be sitting around the negotiating table. She said: Look I think what we've seen recently is that at times these negotiations are going to be tough. Now during the Conservative Party leadership campaign I was described by one of my colleagues as a bloody difficult woman. And I said at the time the next person to find that out will be Jean-Claude Juncker. She made the comments after a German newspaper reported that after a Downing Street dinner on Wednesday Mr Juncker accused Mrs May of being...
