Brigitte Trogneux très chic or très fou: France’s First Lady and her unorthodox

Brigitte Trogneux She's 25 years older than her husband, new French president Emmanuel Macron, but school teacher Brigitte Macron has already caught the attention of style critics for her fashion-rule breaking outfits. After falling in love when Macron attended her literature and theatre classes while she taught at La Providence a Jesuit high school in Amiens the politician described their love as a love often clandestine, often hidden, misunderstood by many before imposing itself. On May 7, Macron defeated Marine Le Pen in the French presidential election with a comfortable 65.1% to Le Pen's 35.9%, and Mrs Macron became France's new First Lady, all set to move her colourful wardrobe into Élysée Palace. As the First Lady of the world's most stylish country, a lot of eyes a...

Corbyn misses campaign appearance amid fallout from leak of draft manifesto

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has pulled out of a planned campaign appearance as the party dealt with the fallout from the sensational leak of its draft General Election manifesto. The 43-page document, which sets out plans to nationalise key industries and reverse years of austerity, was denounced by Tories as a recipe for taxes and borrowing which would put the UK on the road to ruin. But Labour’s joint election co-ordinator Andrew Gwynne played down the significance of the leak, which he said had put the party’s transformational policies at the top of the news agenda. Stressing that the document was only a draft which could be amended by a meeting of senior party and trade union figures in London on Thursday, he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: It’s not ideal, but on t...

Is triple talaq fundamental to Islam, India SC asks

We are going to decide the validity of triple talaq, said Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, heading a Constitution bench. He asked the parties concerned to focus on whether triple talaq was fundamental to Islamic religion. The Chief Justice said that petitioners and respondents would address the court on whether triple talaq was an enforceable fundamental right. The bench sought suggestions on the broad parameters of the directions the court may issue while deciding the validity of triple talaq. Other judges on the Constitution bench are Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Justice Uday Umesh La...

The French President is unfit to run a nation. He doesn’t have children

On Sunday, the French public made their call. Emmanuel Macron was to be their President complete with his centrist politics and desire to stay in the EU. The 39-year-old is married to wife Brigitte Trogneux and has been since 2007. He is a former investment banker, has dipped in and out of politics as both a Minister and member of staff and will be the youngest President in French history. But the French people are missing something. Isn’t ANYBODY paying attention? Macron doesn’t have any kids. Sure, he has a couple of step-children running around but he doesn’t have any of his own. I hate to be the bearer of bad news and s--- on the European Union while it’s already in the gutter, but can someone tell me what kind of future France has when their leader doesn’t know what i...

How President Trump’s Decision to Fire James Comey Could Backfire

President Donald Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey rocked Washington on Tuesday, raising questions about the future of the investigation into his campaign's ties to Russia and potentially setting off a chain of events that could envelop his administration. Comey, whose investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server helped lift Trump into the White House, was leading the federal counterintelligence investigation into whether advisers to the President had sought to collude with Russian officials in their efforts to swing the 2016 election. The ouster of the nation's top cop prompted comparisons to Watergate, as Democrats pilloried Trump for sidelining the official overseeing a probe that could threaten his presidency. But the shock move is fraught ...

I had to get out or die: North Korean defector reveals brutal horrors of Kim Jong Un’s sadistic regime

Kim Chung-Seong’s life reads like the type of story found in the fiction section of a sadist’s library. By the age of 27 he had been brutally beaten, thrown in prison, left to starve, witnessed cold-blooded killings of children, forced into becoming a spy and left hours away from his own execution. But today, after an incredible escape from the clutches of North Korea ’s brutal regime, Chung-Seong thinks it is he who is the lucky one. For while he is now free from merciless Kim Jong-un , he lives in constant fear for the family and friends still hunted by the evil dictator’s army for his defection 13 years ago. The Kim regime never forgets, he says. The leadership may pass down from one generation to another but so does their evil. I saw first-hand how the most harrowing o...

Bangladesh has arrested more than a dozen people from Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslim minority and two men accused of trying to smuggle them illegally into Malaysia by boat, police said on Wednesday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said that there is freedom of speech in the country as the newspapers here are enjoying full freedom. "But all concerned will have to be responsible to enjoy this freedom. The Cabinet yesterday approved the amendments to a law allowing four members of the same family to sit on the board of a commercial bank. The amended law will also allow the directors of commercial banks to serve for three consecutive terms of three years each. Tory policies will deny homes to hundreds of thousands of pensioners and disabled people, warn housing chiefs

If this is not fixed, it could be really disastrous for large numbers of older and vulnerable people. Hundreds of thousands of pensioners and disabled people will be denied the homes they badly need because of a disastrous Conservative policy, housing chiefs are warning. A shortage of sheltered and supported housing is set to mushroom because of crazy funding rules that are shutting services and crushing investment, ministers have been told. Older and disabled people as well as victims of domestic violence and ex-servicemen and women rely on the homes to live independently and to stay out of residential care, or hospital But the National Housing Federation (NFH) is alarmed that housing associations are now refusing to build them because the Government has thrown their futu...
