Ministers draw up plan for Calais crackdown amid fears Macron will scrap border controls

French president-elect Emmanuel Macron Ministers are drawing up plans to stop illegal immigrants from coming to Britain amid concerns that Emmanuel Macron could scrap UK border controls on French soil . Mr Macron, the newly-elected French President, vowed during his election campaign to renegotiate the Le Touquet agreement which enables British border officials to carry out checks in France. Theresa May yesterday appeared to concede that the agreement will have to be looked at again as she vowed to defend the border controls, arguing that they benefit France as much as the UK. The Telegraph understands that in the event the agreement is scrapped ferry companies will be made responsible for stopping illegal migrants from crossing the Channel. Those which fail to do so ...

Trump’s remarks about Muslims could be what ends the travel ban

Testy exchanges between judges and lawyers over Donald Trump’s travel ban on Monday indicated that the legality of the president’s executive order could be determined by his prior comments about Muslims. The pointed questioning came during an appeals court hearing about an executive order Trump issued in March that attempted to halt new visas from six-Muslim majority countries and suspend refugee resettlement in the US. The first order in January was chaotically implemented and blocked by federal courts. The revised order was also blocked by courts in Maryland and Hawaii after judges found grounds for constitutional violations. The Trump administration then appealed these rulings and on Monday faced the next stage in its legal battle during a hearing in front of 13 judg...

Dennis Rodman has opened up about his unlikely friend, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, saying he loves karaoke, TV theme tunes and playing table tennis. The former basketball player, 55, described Jong-un as friend for life and claimed he told him that he doesn’t hate America, and that he has no intention of using nuclear weapons. When he’s around his people, he’s just like anybody else, Rodman told Dujour. He jokes and loves playing basketball, table tennis, pool. They love American ’80s music. They do karaoke to it. He has this 13-piece girls band with violins. He gets a mic and they play the whole time. He loves the Doors and Jimi Hendrix. Oldies. When I first went, the live band only played two songs for four hours: the theme songs from Rocky and Dallas. Rodman said...

Candidates being asked to remove innerwear, jeans before sitting exam

In a shocking incident, a female candidate who appeared at a NEET centre in Kannur on Sunday claimed she had to remove her innerwear before sitting for the entrance test. Other women candidates too faced a harrowing experience due to a strict dress code in force. The anguished candidate told media persons after attempting the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)—conducted for admission to undergraduate medical courses in government and private medical colleges in the country – that she was asked by the examination centre’s officials to remove her innerwear. My daughter went inside the centre, only to return later and hand me her top innerwear,’ said her mother. Another candidate, who was wearing a pair of jeans, was asked to remove a pocket as well as metal button...

The Queen wants William and Harry to be more like Philip

And the first big shake-up involves the British Royal Family's star players. According to The Sun, the 91-year-old ruler is advising her grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry to stop soul-baring and opening up about their feelings, and instead take a leaf out of Prince Philip's book and embrace the Windsor's more hardened approach to formal engagements. Macron defeats Le Pen and the populist revolution and prepares to make May’s task on Brexit harder

France has chosen a new President after a turbulent and scarring election in which the centrist moderate Emmanuel Macron comprehensively beat Marine Le Pen of the hard-right Front National. It is a result which will have widespread repercussions not just for France, but across Europe, including Britain as negotiations to leave the European Union begin. Ms Le Pen had boasted that France would follow the triumphant populist path of Brexit and the presidency of Donald Trump in the US. But her harsh and negative campaign based on opposition to the European Union, opposition to immigration and opposition to supposed elitism, while espousing aggressive nationalism, was emphatically rejected by the voters. Instead they chose, with around 65 per cent of valid votes cast, compared ...

This is the city where a monthly travel card will set you back the most

Public transport in London is the priciest in the world, according to a report published by Deutche Bank. A monthly ticket costs £95 in Auckland, which came in third, followed by New York City where it costs £91. Tokyo was ranked the fifth most expensive city, at £86. Transport for London (TfL) has commented saying that the findings "did not show the true cost of transport in other countries". The report also investigated the evolution of the cost of monthly travel over the years. It has emerged that the cost of transport in England's metropolis is less expensive now than in 2014, when commuters paid £165 a...
