Motorist with 62 points on his licence is still on the roads and it’s LEGAL

Drivers can be spared a ban by courts in 'exceptional' circumstances A man with 62 points on his licence is still on the roads driving legally, it has been reported. The motorist, from West Yorkshire, was last given points for a speeding offence. But he kept his licence and is still able to drive, according to the BBC. Normally, reaching 12 points leads to an automatic ban. But magistrates have the power to give drivers a reprieve in exceptional circumstances. A Freedom of Information request by BBC South East revealed there are around 10,000 motorists on Britain's roads who have 12 points or more on their licence. The majority have between 12 and 18 points, but 203 have more. In Essex a driver has 42 points, in Oxfordshire 51 and in Norfolk 39. David Nichols, of road saf...

Immigrant from Bulgaria and Romania rises to highest level on record in UK

Border Force officer The level of immigration from Romania and Bulgaria to the UK has risen to the highest level on record in the months following the Brexit referendum result, according to the Office for National Statistics. Inward migration from the the so-called EU2 countries was up 19,000 to 74,000, which the ONS described as the highest estimate recorded. The period measured by the statistics includes three months of data following the European Union referendum. Net migration overall was slightly down but broadly flat in the figures at 273,000 a year, down 49,000. The ONS said this change was not statistically significant. The rise in immigration from Bulgaria and Romania was partially offset by a fall in the number of migrants from the Ascension 8 countries like Pola...

What happens if Drink Lemon Water Every Day For 2 Weeks

Humans have been experimenting with tonics since the beginning of time. From the fountain of youth to alkaline water to kale juice, we’re always searching for that magic potion that will restore health and wellness, ward off illness, and make us look and feel 10 years younger. But what if that potion isn’t so mysterious? What if it’s just… lemon water? Lemon water has been touted as a health and wellness aid for years by some MDs, clean living advocates, and, of course, celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow. And unlike packaged juice cleanses that supposedly brighten your skin and age you backwards, lemon water won’t break the bank. It’s cheap, it’s easy, and it seems safe (as long as you don’t try to exist on lemon water alone)—but does it really work wonders? Some proponents of le...

Amnesty says Donald Trump’s poisonous rhetoric makes world a darker place

Amnesty International said on Wednesday that US president Donald Trump's poisonous rhetoric on his way to winning the White House led a global trend towards increasingly divisive politics in 2016 that had made the world a darker place. In its annual report covering 159 countries, the human rights group said principles of human dignity and equality had come under assault from politicians seeking election and it zeroed in on Mr Trump, who took office on January 20. Donald Trump's poisonous campaign rhetoric exemplifies a global trend towards angrier and more divisive politics, Amnesty said in a statement issued in Paris. The world, it said, had become a darker ... unstable place, with a rise in hate speech targeting refugees across Europe and the United States. The early ind...

Port of Sunderland: A street in Washington, Sunderland could be a bargain for housebuyers The least expensive street in England and Wales for the third year in a row has been named as Waterloo Walk in Sunderland, where flats sold for an average of £14,500 in 2015, down from £16,500 in 2015. WhatsApp Changes Everything With Its New Status Feature

WhatsApp is making a radical update to its app, turning it for the first time into a platform for passively consuming content, similar to the way people scroll through their Facebook or Instagram newsfeeds and it’s a move that could finally usher in a money-making system like advertising. WhatsApp’s new Status feature, being rolled out on Monday, will let users share photos, GIFs or videos overlaid with drawings, emojis and a caption that will be visible to selected friends for 24 hours, before disappearing. If this sounds familiar, that’s because it’s exactly like Snapchat’s hugely successful Stories feature, launched three years ago, which lets users share similarly ephemeral timelines. The move probably shouldn’t be surprising. Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, saw its oth...

Discord in Angela Merkel’s government after environment ministry bans meat at official functions

Angela Merkel A row has broken out in Angela Merkel’s government after the environment minister banned meat at official functions. Barbara Hendricks claims eating meat is damaging to the environment and has ordered only vegetarian food to be served. A rival minister has accused her of nanny-statism and trying to force vegetarianism on people by the back door. With elections only months away and Mrs Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) lagging behind their junior coalition partner in the polls, it was only a matter of time before tempers started to fray. But no one expected the first falling-out to be over vegetarian vol-au-vents. Ms Hendricks is a member of the Social Democrats (SPD), who have surged ahead of Mrs Merkel’s CDU in the polls under their new leader, Martin Schul...

How does Pakistan observe International Mother Language Day

Dramatic moment German fighter jets intercept London

This is the dramatic moment two German fighter jets intercepted a London-bound passenger plane after air traffic control failed to make contact with its pilot. The Eurofighter Typhoons were scrambled after the Jet Airways Boeing 777 aircraft lost contact with local air traffic control for a few minutes as it was crossing over Cologne. Video footage apparently taken from a British Airways plane travelling behind showed two fighter jets flying alongside a passenger plane above the clouds. The London-bound flight had 330 passengers and 15 crew on board and was flying from Mumbai to Heathrow. Officials said contact with the passenger plane was restored by the time the fighter jets were airborne and that they were deployed to ensure the safety of the flight and its guests. It m...
