Hillary Clinton’s campaign to participate in Wisconsin recount process

Hillary Clinton's campaign on Saturday, (26 November) said that it will take part in the Wisconsin recount initiated by Green Party nominee Jill Stein and added that it would participate in potential recounts in two other states, Pennsylvania and Michigan. The campaign's general counsel, Marc Elias, wrote on Medium on Saturday that the Clinton team has been conducting a review of election results and looking for any signs that the voting process had been tampered with. He stressed that campaign analysts have so far found no evidence to suggest that the election was manipulated but said that the campaign is keen on making sure of a fair recount process. Elias further said in his post: "The campaign is grateful to all those who have expended time and effort to investigate va...

If Donald Trump wasn’t my father I would spray him with mace: Ivanka Trump’s response to sexual comments

Ivanka Trump responded to her father Donald Trump’s remarks about her sex appeal by saying that if he wasn’t her father, she would spray him with self defence pepper spray, it has emerged. While the President-elect’s eldest daughter has appeared to say little in response to a number of crude comments her father has made about her, it has emerged that in 2006, after Mr Trump publicly joked that he would date her if he weren’t her father, she was quick to respond. According to the ‘Quotables’ section of the Chicago Tribune, Trump, aged 24 at the time, said: “If he wasn’t my father, I would spray him with Mace.” The President-elect’s fascination with his daughter’s looks has been no secret, and during the election campaign trail a number of comments he had made about her that...

Labour will not win a general election as Ukip-lite

Labour will not win a general election if it lurches to the right to become, Diane Abbott has said, as she called on her party to hold its nerve over the issue of immigration. In an interview with the Guardian, the shadow home secretary said Labour’s priority should be to push for Britain to remain a part of the single market after Brexit, and that politicians must be honest with voters and tell them the only way to achieve that is to accept continued freedom of movement. We can’t fight and win an election in 2020 as Ukip-lite. The idea that moving right on immigration in post-industrial Britain will save us seats is I think misconceived, she said. She claimed that the toxic atmosphere since the EU referendum, fuelled in part by newspaper coverage, had left many Britons fe...

Fake doctor who secretly filmed and blackmailed women he dated is jailed

A taxi driver who pretended he was a doctor to impress women he met on a dating website before secretly filming them naked and blackmailing them by threatening to post the footage online has been jailed. Farhan Mirza, 38, who targeted Muslim women, was sentenced to eight and a half years after being found guilty of blackmail, voyeurism, sexual assault, theft and fraud. Four-times married Mirza tried to impress his victims by hanging surgical scrubs in his wardrobe and carrying a stethoscope when in fact he was a taxi driver and part-time IT worker living with his mother in a terrace house in Abertillery, south Wales. The prosecution told Cardiff crown court that Mirza was a sexual predator who threatened to bring shame upon three Muslim women and their families unless they...

Cuban revolutionary icon leader Fidel Castro dies

Fidel Castro, the Cuban revolutionary leader who built a communist state on the doorstep of the United States and for five decades defied US efforts to topple him, died on Friday, his younger brother announced to the nation. He was 90. Castro had been in poor health since an intestinal ailment nearly killed him in 2006 and he formally ceded power to his younger brother two years later. Wearing a green military uniform, Cuba's President Raul Castro appeared on state television to announce his brother's death. "At 10.29 at night, the chief commander of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, died," he said, without giving a cause of death. "Ever onward, to victory" Havana residents on the streets reacted with sadness to the news, while in Miami, where many exiles from the Co...

Donald Trump must sell his business

The former ethics lawyers for president Barack Obama and George W Bush have asked the electoral college to not appoint Donald Trump as the next president due to his potential conflicts of interest. Richard Painter, former chief ethics counsel for Mr Bush, and Norman Eisen, former chief ethics counsel for Mr Obama, said that the president-elect must sell out from his real estate and business holdings before 19 December, when the electoral college officially appoints the next president. As reported by ThinkProgress, Mr Eisen pointed to Article 1, Section 9 of the US constitution which prohibits presidents from accepting "any present, emolument, office, or title, or any kind whatever, from any king, price, or foreign state". The most recent up-and-running example of a Trump b...

Pensions tax relief could be scrapped for high earners: according to experts

In documents published alongside the Autumn Statement, the Treasury said that tax relief on pensions savings is among the “most expensive” tax reliefs, hinting at reforms before the next election. “In 2014 to 2015, this cost was around £48 billion with around two-thirds of the tax relief going to higher and additional rate taxpayers,” the document said. “It is important that resources focus where there is most need.” Tom McPhail, head of retirement policy at Hargreaves Lansdown, told the Financial Times it was a clear hint that the Treasury is “going to take your tax relief away”. However, a Treasury spokesman said: “We completely reject this suggestion – it is not true… The Chancellor did not announce any further changes to pensions tax relief in the Autumn Statement and ...

US Election: Why Hillary may still have shot

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein said on Thursday she has raised $3.5 million to force recounts of the Nov. 8 election results in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, three states where Donald Trump scored narrow wins. The campaign said it exceeded its initial goal for raising $2.5 million and has enough money to pay Wisconsin's $1.1 million filing fee due on Friday. At the same time, the party said it raised its target to $4.5 million, with filing deadlines approaching in Pennsylvania on Monday and Michigan on Wednesday. Hillary Clinton. Stein is pushing for recounts because experts pointed to statistical anomalies in the tallies in all three battleground states, according to the party's website. Trump, a Republican who ran as an anti-establishment maverick,...
