Twenty thousands millions Muslims march against Isis

The marchers made their way to the city of Karbala, 62 miles south west of Baghdad, on Sunday and Monday for the holy day of Arbaeen, which marks the end of a 40-day mourning period following Ashura, the religious ritual that commemorates the death of the Prophet Mohammad's grandson Imam Hussein in 680 AD. Large crowds visit the shrines of Imam Hussein and his half-brother Abbas in Karbala, where they were killed in a revolt against the Umayyad ruler Yazeed in the 7th century AD when they refused to pledge allegiance to Yazeed's Umayyad caliphate. Nusayyef al-Khattabi, who heads the Karbala provincial council, said he expected the total number of visitors over several days to range “between 17 million and 20 million”. Among them are an estimated three million foreigners, t...

Single dad reveals the 5 things he wishes people would stop asking him

Being a single parent can be difficult without adequate support, but for single fathers it can mean a whole different set of challenges. Michael Ray, father of four-year-old Charlie, finds that going out in public with his daughter can be hard when strangers - often women - feel the need to make comments about his parenting. Ray told kidspot: "Women are mostly supportive but some say patronising things. The majority of women I encounter are wonderful and so supportive and complementary but while I’m aware that our family situation is slightly different from the norm it shouldn’t be seen as anything different to a single mum." There are five questions in particular, which Ray often has to deal with: 1. How do you manage? Like every other parent. 2. Are you baby-sitting toda...

The countries that are worse to visit than North Korea

North Korea is about as low as a country can get in the international reputation stakes. One of the world's most secretive states, it frequently makes headlines for its nuclear testing, and its terrible human rights record. Visitors are unlikely to see this side of the country; tourism is tightly controlled and limited to organized groups. However, the experience can take a dark turn for those who don’t follow the rules, such as the American tourist jailed earlier this year for apparently trying to steal a propaganda poster. Yet, there are destinations that are just as bad if not worse – for tourists to visit.

Nigel Farage meet to Donald Trump team on unofficial diplomatic: planning to move to US

Nigel Farage is planning to visit Washington DC early next month to meet again with aides to US President-elect Donald Trump. amid claims he is planning to move across the Atlantic. The visit to the US capital will be seen as part of an unofficial diplomatic offensive by Mr Farage to forge links with Mr Trump’s team which will undermine Theresa May, the Prime Minister, who is still yet to meet with the President-elect. Sources close to the interim leader of the UK Independence Party (Ukip) said he will be meeting with the team around Mr Trump. It comes as friends of Mr Farage told the Times that he is preparing to emigrate to America with his wife Kirsten. He is reportedly hoping to escape from the public eye. Mr Farage is due to travel with the same group who met Mr Trump...

US Results In 3 Swing States May Have Been Hacked, Activists Say

A group of computer scientists and election attorneys are urging Democrat Hillary Clinton to call for a recount in three swing states where President-elect Donald Trump won, New York Magazine reported Tuesday. The group, which includes voting-rights attorney John Bonifaz and J. Alex Halderman, the director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society, said they had found evidence indicating the results in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan may have been manipulated or hacked. The group has not gone on record with their findings yet and is lobbying in private for Clinton to demand a recount. The findings do not prove that the results in the three states were hacked or manipulated but the group said it believes the evidence merits a recount. The a...

Police slammed over stop and search of terrified 10 year old girl

Police in Northern Ireland have been slammed after an officer was pictured performing a stop and search on a girl of 10. The image was posted on social media showing the youngster, dressed in a purple coat, being spoken to by the female cop on a footpath. The incident took place in the Falls Road area of West Belfast on Tuesday night. Republican group Saoradh have condemned the stop and search, saying it left the girl “terrified”, Belfast Live reports . However, they and the police have issued statements about the incident offering differing versions of events. West Belfast police commander, Chief Inspector Norman Haslett confirmed that a police patrol stopped a vehicle on the Falls at around tea time “to speak with the driver and an adult passenger”. He added: “From the o...

Chancellor picks goodies selectively from his autumn statement bag

Philip Hammond is clearly keen to tell us he has a populist touch. Even George Osborne never issued a formal pre-announcement of the goodies in his bag. The new chancellor’s approach takes the Treasury’s news management operation to new heights (or depths, depending on your point of view) but Hammond has at least created a talking point by slapping a ban on the upfront fees letting agents charge their tenants. Everybody can applaud that measure – or, rather, everybody apart from the agents, but they have only themselves to blame. Upfront fees have become divorced from the costs of arranging a tenancy and are instead a means to gouge the tenant. London-based Foxtons charges £420 per tenancy, which is essentially a fee for printing out a standard letter and is ridiculous giv...

Donald Trump begins backing off campaign vows on Clinton, climate change

A top adviser said Trump is now focused on matters that are essential in setting up his administration, not on comments he made during the heat of the campaign. (AP Photo) Two weeks after his election victory, President-elect Donald Trump began backing off campaign promises Tuesday, including his hard line on climate change and his vow to jail Crooked Hillary Clinton that had brought thunderous Lock her up chants at his rallies. A top adviser said Trump is now focused on matters that are essential in setting up his administra...

British expats set to be granted right to carry on living in EU with Theresa May

Hundreds of thousands of British expats are set to be granted the right to carry on living on the Continent after Brexit after the majority of European Union countries signalled they were ready to do a “reciprocal rights” deal with the UK. Senior Government figures have told business leaders that only “a few” of the 27 EU member states are left to agree the outline of a reciprocal rights agreement for Britons in the EU, and EU nationals living in this country for when Britain leaves the EU. The Government said no deals had yet been struck, but the closeness of an informal understanding is leading to speculation that any deal will be announced at a key EU summit in Brussels next month. It came as Michel Barnier, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator, delivered a significant rebu...

Farage hits out after Downing Street dismisses Trump backing for ambassador role

Nigel Farage has accused Downing Street of putting its dislike for him ahead of the national interest, after aides to the Prime Minister dismissed out of hand a call from Donald Trump for him to be made the UK’s ambassador to the United States. The interim Ukip leader said it was time for Number 10 to recognise that “the world has changed”, as he claimed he was “in a good position, with the President-elect’s support, to help”. Mr Trump shocked Westminster with a late-night tweet declaring that Mr Farage would do a “great job” and that “many people” wanted to see him as the UK’s senior diplomat in Washington. The property tycoon’s highly unusual endorsement was a fresh embarrassment for Theresa May, who was beaten to meeting the future president in person by Mr Farage. Down...
