Theresa May expected to tell on G20 Summit UK is open for business

British Prime Minister Theresa May is said to travel to the G20 summit in China today (3 September). This will be her first international conference since she entered Downing Street in July. She has reportedly been given a key speaking slot on Sunday (4 September) where she will talk about the global economy. In her talk she is expected to say that the UK continues to be "consistent and dependable" following the Brexit vote. An unnamed source cited by the Independent said, that May would tell world leaders attending the summit that the UK is "open for business and wanting a smooth and orderly departure". She is also expected to talk about the UK's view of the referendum vote and how it is preparing for the Brexit talks with the European Union (EU). G20 Hangzhou summit 2016...

Lithuania Builds Fake Town To Simulate Russian Attack

Lithuania has constructed a fake town the size of 20 football pitches to allow it to practise its military readiness for a potential city attack and it is inviting its Baltic neighbors to visit and do the same, Euronews reports. The town will be used for training purposes by Lithuania’s armed forces in order to simulate a Russian attack on the country’s territory. The three Baltic NATO allies, made up of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, have been among the most concerned by Russia’s annexation of Crimea, worrying that Russia may use the narrative of protecting Russian-speakers in former Soviet territories against them. The 16-hectare town is designed to resemble a small Baltic city, complete with a school building, a mall, a church, a police office, a sports stadium and 26 t...

UK private sector increased 8%

The private sector activity in the country saw a modest gain in the three months to August, a recent survey by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has revealed. The latest CBI Growth Indicator showed that this sector had grown at 8% during this period. While headline growth did not ease further, there was a mixed performance among sectors, a CBI press release mailed to IBTimes UK said. With regards to manufacturing, CBI said the sector saw strong total order books and a notable increase in export orders. This, it said, led to a healthy growth in the three-month period. While manufacturing output was expected to rise at a decent level, manufacturers were expected to increase prices amid inflationary pressure, it added. With regards to the retail, wholesale and motor...

Keith Vaz Stands Down Over Sex Allegations

Keith Vaz is to stand aside as Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee following allegations in a Sunday newspaper. Select Committee member Naz Shah, who has spoken to Keith Vaz, has told Sky News that he has done the right thing by standing aside as chair. Mr Vaz has not resigned completely but temporarily as he speaks to his lawyer and other members of the committee. The married Labour MP allegedly paid for sex with two male prostitutes and offered to pay for a class A drug, according to the Sunday Mirror. In a statement to Sky News he said: It is deeply disturbing that a national newspaper should have paid individuals to have acted in this way. I have referred these allegations to my solicitor Mark Stephens of Howard Kennedy who will consider them carefully and advis...

PM Theresa May attended G20 summit in China

Theresa May has had a difficult start to the G20 summit as President Barack Obama said the UK would not be the priority for a US trade deal and Japan issued an unprecedented 15-page warning about the consequences of Brexit. The prime minister had been hoping to pitch the UK as a global leader in free trade during her first major outing on the world stage at the G20 summit in Hangzhou. However, she was immediately confronted with harsh warnings about the consequences of leaving the EU and diplomatic tensions with the Chinese over her concerns about their involvement in UK nuclear power. After her first bilateral meeting with Obama, May was warned that the US wanted to focus on trade negotiations with the EU and a bloc of pacific nations before considering a deal with the UK...

NHS attempts to cut spending costs: Obese people and smokers banned from routine surgery

Smokers and obese people will be denied surgery on the NHS by cash-strapped hospitals trying to save money, senior health officials have warned. It's the only way providers are going to be able to balance their books... the service is bursting at the seams. Vale of York Care Commissioning Group has announced it will make people wait up to a year for non-essential surgery if they are overweight, until their body mass index (BMI) drops to 30. The group said the decision has been made as “the best way of achieving maximum value from the limited resources available”. The Royal College of Surgeons has described the decision as “the most severe the modern NHS has ever seen” amid concerns the NHS’ funding crisis is seriously impeding its ability to function. Chris Hopson, head o...

How sick British mum Sally Jones turned her kind and loving son Joe

The world was horrified this week by footage showing a young grinning boy aged just 11 executing Kurds in a sickening ISIS propaganda video. Even more shocking was the revelation that the young lad, called Joe Dixon, is the son of British ISIS convert Sally Jones, 47. As pictures emerge of the innocent newborn tot with his grinning mum in hospital, his devastated grandparents reveal how Joe was a "kind and loving" boy before he arrived in Syria. Joe is the youngest child of Jones, who took her son on her ill-fated travels to the war-torn region in 2013. The heart-warming images of the tot being cradled by his beaming mum are a far cry from the gruesome footage emerging this week of Joe dressed in ISIS uniform, wielding a gun before shooting a Kurdish prisoner in the back o...

China and US ratify deal the Paris climate change agreement

China and the US have formally ratified a historic climate change agreement drawn up in Paris to cut emissions and fight climate change. Presidents Barack Obama and Xi Jinping delivered documents to UN Secretary-General entering their countries into the pact during a ceremony on Saturday. The document certifies that the two countries - the world's worst polluters for carbon dioxide emissions - have taken all necessary domestic steps needed to join the agreement. Mr Obama said the US was committed to being a global leader in the fight against climate change, hoping the Paris agreement would be remembered as the moment the world united to stop global warming. “This is not a fight that any one country no matter how powerful can take alone,” he added. “Some day we may see this...

March for Europe: should remainers just let it go

A nationwide series of March for Europe rallies will be taking place in cities across the city on Saturday to demand keeping close ties with the continent. Demonstrations will be held in London, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Oxford and Cambridge on the anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. The marches are aimed at rallying support for keeping tight economic, cultural and social ties with the rest of Europe. The protesters want to halt the Government formally invoking article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty – which triggers the two-year deadline to withdraw from the EU. The march isn’t even under way yet, and protesters are already facing harsh criticism online from those who voted Leave. The hashtag #MarchForEurope is trending on Twitter, but most of the comments are again...

Newly Released Documents Show: FBI Played Trick on Hillary During Email scandal

Newly released government documents show just how far FBI agents went to determine whether Hillary Clinton broke the law with her use of a private email server as secretary of state, even playing a trick on her during their three-hour interview with her in July. At the core of the FBI’s criminal investigation were two questions: Was classified information sent through the server? And if so, did Clinton know that was happening or intentionally send classified information? Government Attorneys Say Recovered Clinton Emails Could Include as Many as 30 Benghazi-Related Messages Putin Denies Russia Hacked the DNC but Doesn't Condemn the Breach Presidential Debate Moderators Announced FBI Director James Comey recently said his agency could prove the presence of classified informa...
