Go Ahead Expected For New Nuclear Plant

fea     Britain's first new nuclear power station for a generation could be given the final go ahead today. The board of French energy firm EDF is meeting later and is expected to give investment approval for the completion of a new plant at Hinkley Point in Somerset. Hinkley Point C will power 5.8 million homes, create 25,000 jobs and cost £18bn to build. The power station was originally meant to open next year but that has now slipped to 2025. It will replace Hinkley Point B, which is due to be decomissioned next decade. He said: "The go-ahead is desperately needed on a number of grounds - to help keep the lights on in Britain in the decades ahead and as a fulcrum for the creation of thousands of jobs and related economic activity in the West Country." We’re going to carry Hillary to victory, says Barack Obama

President Barack Obama urged Democrats to carry onetime rival Hillary Clinton to victory in November as America's first woman president, while savaging her Republican opponent Donald Trump for fueling hate and division. The two-term president rallied his party's faithful at their national convention, offering a comprehensive endorsement of his first secretary of state as the one person uniquely qualified to succeed him. At the end of his powerful 45-minute speech, Clinton joined him on stage, prompting deafening cheers from the thousands of convention delegates and guests packed into a Philadelphia sports arena to hear the president's address. To the strains of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," Obama shared a warm embrace with his would-be successor, capping an ...

IS jihadi exposed to carry out car bomb attack in London

An IS jihadi reportedly groomed an undercover journalist to carry out a car-bomb attack on a major London landmark. The Islamic State recruiter wanted the reporter to conduct a sickening 'Nice-style' lone wolf attack at a high profile target just last Monday. According to an investigation by The Sun, the jihadi suggested a list of potential targets, including Big Ben and London Bridge in a series of messages, before selecting an unidentified shopping centre. He is said to have told the reporter: "Learn from Nice. Get a car you can park somewhere busy with many people — and a gun you can use at the same time. "While sitting in car, use them all (referring to bullets) and quickly press the button. "Both things must be in a hurry. No time gap.” The pair reportedly communicate...

Americans against Russia’s hacking attack following Trump invitation

The Russians are coming to invade an email near you, and at the invitation of Donald Trump, no less. At least that’s how the mainstream media have interpreted the Republican Presidential candidate’s latest comments. Headlines referring to Trump’s call on Russia to cyber-invade the United States have contributed to a media frenzy, with the DNC accusing Russians of hacking into its emails. The topic can now be found at the top of news feeds across every social media platform following Trump’s press conference on Wednesday when he jokingly weighed in on the email scandal. Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing, said Trump, while commenting on ongoing debacle. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. The c...

Welsh schoolgirl was kept prisoner in a cage, starved and abused because of her un-Islamic lifestyle

Amina Al-Jeffrey, 21, was born in Swansea but moved to Saudia Arabia aged 16 as her father objected to her western lifestyle. She has been held captive in her academic father's home ever since, the family division of the High Court was told yesterday. Saudi authorities would not recognise Miss Al-Jeffery's British citizenship, the forced marriage unit of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) said, adding that "steps need to be taken to ensure Amina is returned to the UK where her safety can be guaranteed". According to The Times, her father, Mohammed al-Jeffrey, 62, works at the Abdulaziz Un...

HSBC becomes second bank to plan charges for withdrawing money

The UK’s biggest bank has changed its rules to force business customers to effectively pay for having funds in their accounts. HSBC said the charge could only apply to funds held in foreign currencies, not in pounds. The bank, which made £520 profit a second in the first three months of this year, quietly made the change to its terms and conditions in February this year. HSBC’s move emerged a day after 1.3 million NatWest business customers were also warned they could be hit with negative interest rates. Neither HSBC or NatWest said they planned to charge personal current account customers negative rates. But Charlotte Nelson, from the website Moneyfacts, warned: “If one bank were to do it, I could see others following suit.” Mortgage expert Ray Boulger said: “Eventually p...
