London Eye

Samiul Raijul: Visiting the tourist attractions in London is quite exciting and interesting as it comes with lots of fun and enjoyment. One such destination is the London Eye which is a large Ferris wheel by the south bank of the River Thames in Central London. This Ferris wheel, adorned with lights, takes about half an hour to complete a full circle, or one revolution. The diameter of the wheel is 394 feet. This is the third largest wheel in the world after the High Roller (America) and the Singapore Flyer (Singapore). The London Eye is also the largest wheel in Europe. Visitors get a half an hour ride with a view of the beautiful Thames and its surroundings from almost 400 feet above the river water level. My brother and I decided to go on the London Eye, and as we wanted to ride it in t...

All Night Tube Service Gets Launch Date

London's long-awaited all-night Tube service will launch on two underground lines on 19 August, the new mayor has announced. A 24-hour service had been due to start last year but no agreement was reached with the unions, which led to it being delayed. Transport for London (TfL) has now said all-night operations will begin at weekends on the Central and Victoria lines. The night service will be rolled out on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines later in the autumn, when the new Tube drivers have completed their training. Around 200 part-time drivers are taking part in a 14-week training programme to implement the new service. Earlier this year, unions agreed a pay deal, bringing to an end the strikes which had forced the programme to grind to a halt.

Taliban chief killed in US drone attack: Afghan spy agency

Afghanistan's spy agency Sunday said Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed in a US bombing raid, the first confirmation from regional officials of his death, which marks a potential blow to the resurgent militant movement. The apparent elimination of Mansour, who had consolidated power following a bitter Taliban leadership struggle over the past year, could also spark new succession battles within the fractious movement. "Mansour was being closely monitored for a while... until he was targeted along with other fighters aboard a vehicle," Afghanistan's Nat...
