The state-run Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) discovered the mine after two years of efforts. They found it after drilling 2,270 feet down. Once commercial production starts, the limestone will cater local demand for clinker – a material used in cement production among other purposes, said the state minister. It will take another two years to start commercial production. Bangladesh will not have to import limestone any longer and...

Rafiul Islam: A tax defaulter has apparently surrendered his luxury car, being unable to pay for its tax that piled up over the years, for what he said out of respect for the law. The incident came to light when customs officials of Sylhet found a Lexus 2007 model luxury vehicle, worth about Tk 1.5 crore, waiting outside their office door around 2:00am early today. The vehicle, that was said to have been brought from UK in 2011 under carnet facility with an undertaking to send back by a year, had a letter inside it which appeared to be from its owner. John Whittingdale admits to taking free dinner with performers at lapdance club

Mr Whittingdale and two other MPs were treated to dinner with managers and two female performers. Mr Whittingdale insisted it was an official visit as part of an inquiry by the Culture, Media and Sport select committee into new laws cracking down on such establishments. But the evening was not recorded in the committee’s published records, according to a report on Tuesday in the Evening Standard. Nor was the visit mentioned in the committee’s report, which rejected proposed tougher laws, aimed at curbing the spread of lapdancing clubs by classing them as “sex encounter” v...

The ORB survey for the Telegraph found that if the referendum was held now some 52 per cent of respondents would back remaining a member of the EU, with 43 per cent for leave, down five points on the previous poll. It appears that Remain voters are catching up with Leave supporters in terms of turnout. Some 70 per cent of Brexit supporters told pollsters they planned to vote, the same level as before, but the Remain turnout was up from 61 to 65 per cent. The overall turnout was up three points to 67 per cent. ORB also found that Leave supporters were slightly more likely to switch t...

Dressed down Queen was asked if she’d ever met the monarch

She may be one of the most famous faces in the world, but the Queen can sometimes get away without being recognised. Her former protection officer Richard Griffin has revealed how the monarch once encountered a group of Americans while dressed in a headscarf and tweeds while out walking near Balmoral, according to the diary section of The Times. When the tourists asked: "Do you live round here?", the incognito Queen simply replied that she had a house nearby. "Have you ever met the Queen?" they asked. "No," she replied, then pointed at her policeman and quipped: "But he has." The Queen traditionally spends her summer break at her Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire - her private home which was handed down to her through generations of royals. She is apparently never happier t...
