Kalandia Checkpoint: Dozens of Muslims throw stones at Israeli security forces

As today marks the last Friday of Ramadan, dozens of Muslims who were on their way to pray at the Temple Mount threw stones at Israeli security forces and tried to break through the Kalandia Checkpoint. Two Broder Policemen were injured during the riots. According to Palestinian media outlets, a man in his 40s died due to the security forces’ use of tear gas.

Two Border Policemen were slightly injured today (Friday) from stones that were thrown at them by dozens of Muslim worshipers who tried to break through the Kalandia Checkpoint near Jerusalem. The Israeli security forces that were at the scene used non-lethal weapons designed for dispersing riots. Palestinian news agencies are reporting that one person was killed in the riots.

According to the Palestinian News Agency Maan, a man in his 40s choked to death due to the tear gas the security forces used in order to disperse the riots. The man was evacuated to a hospital in Ramallah, where he was pronounced dead. Two Israeli Border Policemen were slightly injured and treated at the scene.

This morning, the Israel Police increased its presence in East Jerusalem, especially in the Old City, because today is the last Friday of Ramadan and in preparation for the Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Decree) events that will take place at the Temple Mount tonight. In addition, the Israel Police fears that more terror attacks will be carried out today, following yesterday’s two terror attacks in Kiryat Arba and Netanya.
