EU leaders round on Trump and reject May’s bridge building efforts

European leaders launched a series of attacks on Donald Trump over his anti-EU rhetoric on Friday, accusing him of a lack of respect, as Theresa May’s attempts to position herself as a bridge with the new US president were roundly rejected at a summit in Malta. Trump’s conduct was scorned by prime ministers and presidents, with the French leader, François Hollande, warning there would be no future for Europe’s relations with the US if this future isn’t defined in common. At a working lunch at the talks in the Maltese capital, Valletta, the British prime minister appealed to other leaders to work “constructively and patiently” with the American president. Assailant shot in Louvre attack thought to be Egyptian

The man who attacked soldiers in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris is believed to be an Egyptian, French authorities have said. The 29-year-old, who was living in the United Arab Emirates, is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after being shot, prosecutor Francois Molins said. He said the man’s identity has not been formally confirmed but the French soldiers’ quick reactions put an end to a terror attack at one of Paris’ most iconic tourist attractions. He said everything shows that the assailant was very determined. French president Francois Hollande told reporters at an EU summit in Malta that there was “no doubt” the attack was of a terrorist nature. He said the situation around the landmark museum is “totally under control but the overall threat to France re...

It came back with all his correct information - but had a picture of a total stranger. Ben, 28, said: They put a completely different person's picture in my passport. I couldn't believe it. Ben, from Blackheath, SE London, collected his new passport from his local post office last Wednesday. He said: I flicked through it, and it seemed all fine. But my friend who was with me looked over my shoulder said 'wait that's not you! We had a bit of a laugh about it but then realised the security issue involved. I'd also waited four weeks for it and...

Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump’s entry order nationwide

A federal judge in Washington state on Friday temporarily blocked enforcement of President Trump’s controversial ban on entry to the United States, and airlines planned to begin allowing passengers from banned countries to board, according to a person familiar with the matter. Following the ruling, government authorities immediately began communicating with airlines and taking steps that would allow travel by those previously barred from doing so, according to a U.S. official. At the same time, though, the White House said in a statement that the Justice Department would at the earliest possible time file for an emergency stay of the outrageous” ruling from the judge. Minutes later, it issued a similar statement omitting the word outrageous. The president’s order is intend...
