John Lewis balcony plunge leaves teen fighting for life after falling 60ft

A teenage girl is fighting for her life in hospital after falling 60ft from a balcony at John Lewis.

The 19-year-old fell from the upper level to the ground floor and is currently being treated for ‘desperately serious’ injuries.

She is understood to have fallen from the internal balcony inside the store in Cheadle, Greater Manchester.

Police and paramedics were called to the department store at 7.20pm last night.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are now investigating how it happened, the Manchester Evening News reports.

A GMP spokesman said: At around 7.20pm we were called to a report a female who had fallen from the upper level of John Lewis onto the ground floor.

The police and ambulance service attended. Her injuries are desperately serious. We are now investigating the reasons behind the fall.

A John Lewis spokesperson said: We can confirm that the emergency services were called to our Cheadle shop this evening following a serious incident.

We closed the shop immediately and are working closely with the emergency services.

At 10.30pm last night police said the teen remained in a critical condition with her injuries described as desperately serious.

Police remained at the scene until 10.30pm last night, with uniformed officers guarding the main entrance and others carrying out investigations inside the store.

North West Ambulance Service said it was called to the store and took the girl to Salford Royal Hospital suffering from ‘major trauma injuries’.
