Any other deal sells us short: SNP delivers Brexit ultimatum to PM

The Scottish National party will vote against any Brexit deal that takes the UK out of the single market and customs union, the party’s Westminster leader has said. Ian Blackford said the SNP’s 35 MPs would also resist a blind Brexit, where little was known about the substance of the deal, or a no-deal Brexit, suggesting Theresa May would struggle to command a majority in the Commons next year. Addressing delegates at the SNP’s annual conference in Glasgow, Blackford said: The only deal we will accept is one that keeps Scotland in the single market or customs union. Any other deal sells us short. I put the prime minister on notice we will not support any measure that threatens Scottish jobs and living standards. High Court blocks iPhone data breach class action against Google

The High Court has blocked a mass legal action against Google over claims that it collected sensitive personal data from more than four million iPhone users. Mr Justice Warby, sitting in London, announced his decision on Monday. The litigation was brought by campaign group Google You Owe Us, led by former Which? director Richard Lloyd. The tech giant faced claims that it bypassed privacy settings on Apple iPhone handsets between August 2011 and February 2012 and used data to divide people into categories for advertisers. The campaign group hoped to win at least £1 billion in compensation for an estimated 4.4 million users of the device in the UK. At the first hearing of the case in London in May, lawyers for Mr Lloyd told the court that information collected by Go...

TV journalist murdered in a park in Bulgaria

A television journalist has been brutally murdered in Bulgaria's northern town of Ruse, prosecutors said Sunday, in a case that has sparked international condemnation. The body of 30-year-old Viktoria Marinova, whom authorities identified only by her initials, was found on Saturday in a park, Ruse regional prosecutor Georgy Georgiev said. The death was caused by blows on the head and suffocation, he added. Her mobile phone, car keys, glasses and part of her clothes were missing, Georgiev said, adding that prosecutors were probing all leads both personal and linked to Marinova's job. Interior Minister Mladen Marinov later confirmed to journalists that the victim had also been raped. Prime Minister Boyko Borisov expressed hope that the investigation would succeed b...

Third of schoolgirls sexually harassed in uniform

More than a third of schoolgirls have been sexually harassed in public while wearing their school uniform. A survey of 1,004 girls aged between 14 and 21 found that 35% had received unwanted sexual attention or contact, including being groped, stared at, cat-called and wolf-whistled. One in eight of those were aged 12 or younger when they experienced this for the first time. The poll by Plan International UK also found that one in seven had been followed and 8% said they had been filmed or photographed by a stranger without their permission or had someone take a photo up their school skirt. More than a third of the girls said they had been sexually harassed while travelling to or from school. Jess from Glasgow said she was about 15 when a man on a train tried to p...
